I made J2ME application using http conenction to get a data from webserver. It works really good on every mobiles (Siemens SL45i, Siemens S55, M50, Nokia 7210, Nokia 3510i) but Nokia 7650 doenst connect to webserver through http protocol. But this same mobil can connect to ICQ through sockets. Can someone explain me this problem ? Thanks a lot ;o)
sorry nmittal, but your answer is not very helpfull.
It doesn't work for me and WebViewer does, so i can't understand why nokia doesn't put out an official workaround to this issue, or maybe we should start using sonyericsson P800 instead of Nokia 7650 & 3650?
Could you plz tell the difference between an WAP access point and a GPRS access point.
I got a setup file from my service provider which has the IP address of the WAP gateway.
I am able to browse using the browser, but whenever i try to make a HTTP connection in my midlet it just hangs there.

The correct question is "explain the difference between a GPRS WAP Access Point and a GPRS Internet Access Point".
Some J2ME phones implement http over WAP (eg. Nokia Series 40, Sharp GX10). Other phones implement http over TCP/IP (eg. Nokia Series 60, SE P800).
If your phone implements http over WAP, you need to configure a WAP APN (ie. when you connect to GPRS you are routed to a WAP gateway). If your phone implements http over TCP/IP, you need to configure an Internet APN, ie. directly onto the net and not via a WAP gateway.
There are some gotchas, eg. not all network operators offer an Internet APN to prepay customers. In almost every case, if the MNO configures your phone for GPRS, it will be for WAP since they want you to use their WAP services (*sigh*). You generally have to work a little harder to set up and Internet connection.
