Check out the latest tools for mobile web development:
ApiBridge
ApiBridge enables the capabilities of Web Runtime widgets to be extended by using a set of Symbian OS plug-ins.
Nokia WRT Plug-in 2.0 for Visual Studio
This updated plug-in includes a new Gecko based browser. The browser provides features to view home-screen widgets and
to work with the WRT platform services integration features easily.
Forum Nokia provides a range of tools for mobile web developers.
For Web Runtime (WRT) widget developers, the plug-ins and extensions for Aptana Studio, Aptana Studio Pro, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Microsoft Visual Studio speed the creation, testing, packaging, and deployment of WRT widgets and the Nokia Platform Services 2.0 beta JavaScript API offers a simple way to access device data and features. For all web developers, the S60 SDKs and Series 40 SDKs provide emulators in which web pages and — for the S60 SDKs — WRT widgets can be tested on a Windows PC.
There are also tools from mobiForge that help developers ensure their sites are optimised for mobile browsing.
WRT widgets enable web developers to quickly and efficiently mobilise their web content for consumption on mobile devices. To ensure the development process is as straightforward as possible, Forum Nokia offers web developers plug-ins to the popular Aptana Studio, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Microsoft Visual Studio web development environments. Using these plug-ins developers can get their widgets to market faster and deliver them to a global market of tens of millions of S60 device users.
Each plug-in offers developers tools to create new and import existing widget projects and then preview, debug, validate, package, and deploy their widgets. Each development tool offers advanced code editing features, which the plug-ins extend by offering code completion for the Web Runtime API. Additional features are then provided in each plug-in.
In addition, the plug-ins are designed to integrate seamlessly with the supported development environment. This means developers will be instantly at home with the plug-ins. This seamless integration also means that developers need no prior experience of working with the S60 platform development environments. Now businesses and organisations can readily mobilise their existing web presence and create exciting Web 2.0 mashups of content and services using the skills they already have.
In addition to providing full support for creating, editing, testing, validating, packaging, and deploying widgets, the plug-in supports development for the latest WRT widget features. Code completion includes the full set of Web Runtime 1.1 APIs, including those for platform services. The preview provides support for the home-screen view, sample data for the platform services APIs, and the ability to create device events. The latest version is also compatible with computers running Linux based Ubuntu 8.04 and Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
With Nokia WRT Plug-in 2.2 for Aptana Studio, creating WRT widgets has never been easier or more productive.

WRT widget development in Adobe Dreamweaver is now simple and straightforward. The Nokia WRT Extension (which is also available from Adobe Marketplace & Exchange) provides features for creating, editing, testing, validating, packaging, and deploying widgets. The latest version updates code completion to include support for the full set of Web Runtime 1.1 APIs, including those for platform services. The preview, which takes place in Adobe Live View, provides support for the home-screen view, sample data for the platform services APIs, and the ability to create device events.
Using the power of Adobe Dreamweaver, web developers can now easily create WRT widgets and take their web sites or services mobile with significantly less effort. In addition, the extension is available as versions for the Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Russian languages. (Non-English versions are currently for Nokia WRT Extension 1.0 only.)

Web developers who have chosen Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 as their development platform, can now plug-in features that dramatically simplify the process of creating WRT widgets. The plug-in adds to Visual Studio the tools required to create or import, edit, preview, debug, validate, package, and deploy WRT widgets. The latest version of the plug-in provides code completion for the WRT 1.1 API, integrates widget validation with Visual Studio’s live error reporting, and includes a Gecko based preview browser. The preview browser enables developers to fully test a widget within Visual Studio, with features including home-screen-view preview, simulated device data, and a JavaScript console.
Working in the familiar Visual Studio environment, the Nokia WRT Plug-in enables web developers to concentrate on delivering compelling widgets to S60 devices. In addition, the plug-in is available as versions for the Chinese (simplified and traditional), German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Russian languages. (Non-English versions are currently for Nokia WRT Plug-in 1.0 only.)

Nokia Platform Services 2.0 provides an intuitive and easy-to-learn set of JavaScript APIs for accessing key device data and information, such as location information and contact records. The API offers access to device information through the addition of just one or two lines of JavaScript code to a widget.
The API is available for use on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the Nokia N97 mobile computer as well as in the S60 5th Edition SDK for Symbian OS. Nokia Platform Services 2.0 will ship on future S60 5th Edition devices from Nokia.

ApiBridge is a component that enables Web Runtime widgets to communicate with a set of Symbian OS plug-ins. Using ApiBridge developers can extend the capabilities of their WRT widgets to upload files to a website; capture video, images, and audio; read files resident on a device; resize images; access and create thumbnail images; access a device’s log information; access a device’s location; and access media on a device.
The tool package includes the JavaScript™ code that should be included in every widget that wants to make use of ApiBridge and a SIS file that adds the plug-ins to Symbian devices.
The plug-ins SIS file and any widget can be installed separately. To simplify installation, the ApiBridge package includes skeleton code for creating a single SIS file to install the plug-ins and any widget using them.

The S60 Platform SDKs for Symbian OS provide full emulation of the Web Browser for S60. These enable you to test website optimisations on a Windows PC without the need for an S60 device or a mobile network connection. Web pages can be accessed from files stored locally on a Windows PC or on a web server located on a LAN or the internet.
Series 40 SDKs
The Series 40 SDKs provide emulators that include implementations of the browsers available on Series 40 devices. These enable you to test your website optimisations on your PC without the need for a Series 40 device or mobile network connection. Web pages can be accessed from a local Windows PC or directly from a web server located on a LAN or the internet.
A Series 40 ‘lite’ browsing application is available in the Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 or earlier SDKs, and the Web Browser for Series 40 is available in the Series 40 6th Edition SDK.
