Introduction to the templates

The Nokia Mobile Web Templates for High-end Devices provide a series of custom, styled, and tested mobile web components. You can either mix and match the components, or use the full series to completely customise your mobile website or application. The components are suitable for most S60 3rd Edition and S60 5th Edition devices from Nokia and also are compatible with newer Series 40 WebKit and maemo™ devices.

Here’s what’s included:

  • A collection of pre-styled mobile web components, including navigation bars, lists, grids, flexible buttons, form elements, data tables, and a simple slide show.
  • A short guide to each component, including any device-compatibility issues and instructions for adapting colours and sizes where needed.
  • Commented Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript™ files, which you can modify to further personalise the look or behaviour of your content.
  • Graphical source files in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Adobe Fireworks CS4 formats that can easily be adapted to suit your brand or colour scheme.

Note: The templates include standards-compliant markup and conform to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards.

Compatibility

All template components are designed and optimised with the following device groupings in mind. As you will see, these groupings span a wide range of popular devices.

  1. WebKit touch
This grouping contains S60 touch devices. The template components for the WebKit touch grouping have been tested with the Nokia N97, and Nokia N97 Mini mobile computers as well as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. While the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic uses WebKit version 413, an earlier version of the WebKit open-source browser engine, it is included in this category because of its greater overall capabilities and the need to optimise for touch and the much larger screen when developing for this device.

Note: The templates in this grouping should also be compatible with many other touch-enabled devices, such as the Apple iPhone, Android G1, HTC Magic, Samsung Omnia, and Palm Pre.

  2. WebKit (non-touch)
This grouping contains those newer S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 devices that incorporate WebKit version 525 and later, such as the Nokia E55 messaging device.

  3. Legacy WebKit (non-touch)
In this grouping are older S60 3rd Edition devices that incorporate a browser based on WebKit version 413. The group comprises S60 3rd Edition devices; S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 devices (such as the Nokia N95, N81, N82, and E90 phones); and some early S60 3rd Edition, FP 2 devices (such as the Nokia N79, N96, and 6720 phones).

  4. Series 40 WebKit
This grouping contains those newer Series 40 6th Edition devices that incorporate a WebKit browser optimised for the Series 40 platform, such as the Nokia 6303 classic and the Nokia 6260 slide.

  5. Maemo (touch)
The template components for this grouping have been optimised for the Nokia N810 and Nokia N900 Internet Tablets, which boasts an 800 x 480-pixel display and a browser based on the Gecko open-source browser engine. Note: These components also should be compatible with the Mozilla Fennec browser.

Note: The Nokia Mobile Web Templates for High-end Devices have only been tested on Nokia devices.

Tip: To support the full range of Nokia devices, please download these companion templates:

Note: We also include Opera Mini in this category, regardless of the device it is being used on as it provides reduced levels of CSS and JavaScript support.
