Carbide.ui provides a WYSIWYG tool for the creation of graphics themes for S60 and Series 40 devices, as well as audio themes for S60 devices. You can integrate your favourite bitmap-, vector graphics-, and audio-editing applications with Carbide.ui and design theme elements using the tools you already know. Once you’ve created a new theme, you can use tools included in Carbide.ui Theme Edition to package and, in the case of an S60 theme, sign your theme. With Nokia PC Suite, Carbide.ui Theme Edition can automatically deploy a new theme package to a device for testing. The latest version of Carbide.ui Theme Edition adds new features for Series 40 themes, as well as the ability to install Carbide.ui under any version of Microsoft Windows Vista. Nokia N97 mobile computer plug-in

A plug-in offering Nokia N97 mobile computer theme components is now available for Carbide.ui 3.4 Theme Edition. This plug-in adds support for:

• The new S60 home screen, available first on the Nokia N97 mobile computer. Previews of the home-screen are available in landscape and portrait orientations.
• Thirty two new home-screen-specific application icons.
• A preview screen for Music Player 4, available in portrait orientation.
• 149 Nokia N97 mobile computer specific icons.

S60 5th Edition theme compilers

An issue has been identified with the packaging of themes for S60 5th Edition devices in Carbide.ui 3.4 Theme Edition, which includes themes created with the new Nokia N97 plug-in. While a permanent fix is being developed, a set of compilers have been made available as a workaround.

What can I do with Carbide.ui Theme Edition?

Carbide.ui Theme Edition enables you to create graphics themes for S60 and Series 40 devices, as well as audio themes for S60 devices. Using the WYSIWYG interface, you can access each element within an S60 or a Series 40 theme and adjust its visual or audio properties. When you need to design new theme graphics or audio, Carbide.ui enables you to open the element in your favourite bitmap-, vector graphics-, and audio-editing applications.

What’s in Carbide.ui Theme Edition?

Carbide.ui Theme Edition is an integrated tool for theme development. The tool includes all the features needed to create, edit, package, and deploy a theme. Carbide.ui Theme Edition also provides comprehensive online and context-sensitive help, as well as tutorials and example themes.

In addition, Carbide.ui can be extended with plug-ins that add support for components for specific devices. Currently, plug-ins are available for the Nokia E66, Nokia E71, and Nokia E75 multimedia computers.

How do I get started with Carbide.ui Theme Edition?

If you're already creating mobile content, you almost certainly have the skills to create themes with Carbide.ui. To get started, you should also be familiar with the creation of bitmap and SVGT-format vector graphics. Skills for creating audio are essential if you want to create audio themes for S60 devices.

To run Carbide.ui Theme Edition, you need a well-specified PC. If you already develop mobile content, you probably have such a PC. Details of specific hardware requirements are provided on the Carbide.ui Theme Edition features page.

Along with Carbide.ui Theme Edition, you should install Nokia PC Suite, which enables you to connect an S60 or a Series 40 device to your PC and transfer packaged themes to that device directly from within Carbide.ui Theme Edition. If you have never used Nokia PC Suite, take a look at the PC Suite help section on Nokia’s website. Pay particular attention to the 'Start' and 'Get connected' subsections.
