About today’s Microsoft news
July 17, 2014 Comments
On July 10, Satya Nadella shared an email that synthesized the strategic direction and opportunity for Microsoft. Today, Satya and Stephen Elop outlined a number of priorities and areas of focus. (Read Satya’s email and Stephen’s email). We wanted to take a moment to share some of the key points with you.
As part of the updated strategy, we plan to deliver additional lower-cost Lumia devices by shifting selected future Nokia X designs and products to Windows Phone devices. We plan to make this shift immediately while continuing to sell and support existing Nokia X products. This shift will have a number of important implications for those of you who have created apps for our Nokia X as well as for the Asha and Series 40 product lines.
We plan to continue accepting new and updated Nokia X, Asha and Series 40 apps and content to the Nokia Store until March 31, 2015. We expect existing content in the Nokia Store will continue to be available to download until the end of 2015, and you will continue to receive download and revenue reports as well as payouts for paid apps and content sold through that time
We’re committed to making these changes in a way that minimizes disruption to you and our mutual customers and will work with you as plans develop going forward.
In the meantime, the Windows Phone Dev Center has everything you need to create great apps and publish them in the Windows Phone Store. You can download the development tools for free and start creating your app right away.
We appreciate your contributions and we hope to continue to work with you on building great experiences on Windows.
