    Re: Can Not Download SDK

    I'm still getting the "forbidden" message, but I found a way to download. Though there is surely something wrong going on.

    What I do is reload the page several times (4-5 should do it) until it...

    Re: Can Not Download SDK

    Same with me. Can't download a thing: anything that goes through /dp id forbidden. Hope it'll be fixed soon.

    Re: Some devices won't list their files

    Thanks guys!

    The problem was that the Mmc folder was showing but it's contents were empty. The same with all other folders. The files were of the type: .TXT, .HTML, .EPUB. Truth be told, I'm...

    Re: Some devices won't list their files

    Thanks! I'm not absolutely sure it's has been restricted as there isn't a SecurityException being thrown, but the result is that there are no files listed.

    Re: Some devices won't list their files

    Thanks!

    Samsung GT B7722. I know it's not Nokia, but I've seen very little support from Samsung, whereas at this forum, there's people with general experience with Java Mobile, i.e. beyond Nokia...

    Some devices won't list their files

    Some part of my app requires that the user should browse through the FS and choose a file to interact with. Of course, this is done through the File API (JSR-75 if I remember correctly).

    On most...
  7. Re: Bluetooth: Handling connections that go out of range

    Thanks, traud. You explained it perfectly. I can't possibly be any happier now! :-) Thanks!
  8. Bluetooth: Handling connections that go out of range

    I am trying to implement a server-client connection over the spp.

    After initializing the server, I start a thread that first listens for clients and then receives data from them. It looks like...

    Cannot start the S60 emulator

    I've installed the S60 3-rd edition SDK, and when I try to run the emulator (through epoc.exe or sdk.exe) it shows up for a while, e.g. 6-7 seconds and then it closes automatically. Even though it's...

    Re: S40 troubles with FileConnection

    Fixed it. Obviously the name was not OK, my mistake. I was making a string out of chars and the string wasn't ok. Strangely enough never had this problem on my samsung or on the WTK. Anyway, all...

    S40 troubles with FileConnection

    I am trying to check if a file exists and then create it, i. e.:

    FileConnection userfile = (FileConnection) Connector.open("file:///e:/albite/books/alice.alx");
    if (!userfile.exists()) {
    ...
  12. Re: A couple of questions regarding exiting midlets and the destroyApp method

    Thank you very much, Graham! All your exhaustive piece of info is really useful to me! You've always been able to give advice considering real devices in real situations and this I consider close to...
  13. A couple of questions regarding exiting midlets and the destroyApp method

    Hi there! Here goes:

    In the official documentation is said that the midlet should free up resources upon entering this method. Why is it necessary? I mean, it's OK to free up connections so...
  14. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    If you experience any problems, I suggest you download the sources and use them instead of the .jar file.
  15. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    There's the promised API: http://github.com/dumbledore/AlbiteCharacterDecoder
    One would find there an example how to use it, too. And there are tests for all encodings. Here goes a list of all...

    RandomAccessFile and java.util.zip

    For anyone that might need random reading from FileConnections or decompressing/compressing ZIP files I am posting links to some code that may come in handy:

    1. RandomReadingFile: Implementation...
  17. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    Graham, I've made my own StreamReader. I am planning to add support for most ASCII-based encodings. As I said, I'll be porting code from libiconv and it's a pretty easy job to do.

    As it is made...
  18. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    Don't bother, all is fixed now! thanks for the support!

    By the way, the sources from libiconv will do perfectly. :-)
  19. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    You know the problem is the FileConnection API. Again! It doesn't want to read some files to the end. I am trying to find the problem...

    I have a reader:

    public static char[]...
  20. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    Thank you Graham. Saved me lots of time!

    It's my buggy connection, and I have duplicated the thread without meaning to. However, there was one more question there:

    I tried the mentioned...
  21. Re: Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    It seems that the InputStreamReader is buggy. There is a certain UTF-8 file containing Cyrillic letter that it doesn't want to read to the end! Whatever I do.

    P.S. I verified it with iconv and it...
  22. Reading text files in non-standard encodings

    What do we do with non-UTF8/ASCII/LATIN-1 text files? I tried reading a Windows-1251 file and it gave no exceptions, just read the file (wrongly). More precisely, it read it to the point where the...

  24. Re: DataInputStream.skip() produces OutOfMemoryError

    Thanks Graham! Great idea but it won't be that easy. Catching OutOfMemoryErrors is never a pleasant thing to do as it involves the Garbage Collector and may decrease the starting / terminating time...
  25. Re: DataInputStream.skip() produces OutOfMemoryError

    To rollno1:
    You must have misunderstood me. I am not trying to read the whole file at once. I am reading the header and at a later point I need random access to the following contents. As a matter...
