  1. Re: How to make thread safe when access file?

    He said he doesn't want one thread to read the file until the other has released it, not for them to access it simultaneously.

    So one thread has to tell the other it has finished, there are lots...

    Re: externalize/internalize RPointerArray

    In my sdk, if I look up something such as RWriteStream, for example, that at the top of the page it says:

    #include <s32strm.h>
    link against: estor.lib.

    But then again maybe your SDK doesn't...

    Re: externalize/internalize RPointerArray

    So have you tried linking to the stream libraries as was said?

    Re: externalize/internalize RPointerArray

    A compilation error or a linking error? If a linking error you're not linking to the stream libraries.

    No need to put it in a while loop, the eternalization of the array does that for you.

    Re: externalize/internalize RPointerArray

    When you externalize the array, each individual element is also going to get externalized i.e. CTest.

    How does it know how to externalize a CTest if you haven't told it how?

    Re: Help sending value to const TDesC8

    You really are going to struggle with Symbian C++ if you don't know the basics of C++ first.

    Take time out for a couple of days and read a book on C++ before proceeding with SYmbian.
  8. Re: storing and retrieving application settings in Symbian OS

    There's no one centralised place/mechanism. It depends on if you are storing settings and/or data and how much/big they are as to which is the most appropriate method.

    Re: What is Singleton class

    If you don't know what a singleton is then why do you want a list of classes in SYmbian which are singletons? It'll take me several weeks to get that full list, can you wait that long?

    Re: length of an array

    If you insist on using C style arrays instead of C++ arrays then this is one of the disadvantages.

    By length I think you actually mean the number of items in the array? the only thing you can do...

    Re: Removing a CRichText from a file.

    Deleting an embedded store should remove everything inside it.

    However I don't know if you can create a stream once and then create and delete stores within it repetedly, but I suspect that you...

    Re: TPoint issues

    What happens if you don't use an unnamed temporary? i.e.

    TPoint temp(-5,0);
    positionSymbol2[0] = temp;

    "the only conclusion that I can think of at the moment is that it tries to call the...

    Re: Removing a CRichText from a file.

    I'm not speaking from authority but maybe what you are doing isn't a valid operation given how CRichTexts are stored - if you want to delete everything you delete the entire store. Incidentally the...
  15. Re: Active Object called from a CBase based class

    An active scheduler has got nothing to do with CBase. CBase does nothing (except zero initialise member data).

    GUI based applications have an active scheduler initialised for them automatically in...

    Re: Removing a CRichText from a file.

    Sorry didn't notice about the compact in your posting.
    Perhaps a CRichText object externalizes itself to more than one stream, I can imagine that its formating data and actual text data get stored...

    Re: Removing a CRichText from a file.

    search in the documentation etc. for compacting of stores.
  19. Re: storing listbox items to file/stream/store???

    That would be easiest way to internalize/externalize them.

    Re: Private Virtual Functions.

    Why shouldn't the vft point to private methods, do you think private virtual methods have no place in object oriented design?

    I agree that it makes no sense exporting private methods, however I...
  22. Re: storing listbox items to file/stream/store???

    They're not dealing with multiple items, if the items are all the same they can be held in an array and the array passed as the parameter and externalized (without using a loop, arrays have...
  23. Re: Active Object called from a CBase based class

    CAknView is part of the app/gui framework and thus there will be an active scheduler installed and started for you, if this other class is independent from the framework there won't be.
