    Re: How do I quit?

    I think so. They could be presented with a menu with "1) start game 2) select level 3) quit". They'd expect 3 to work. My own menu, that is - not the one you get when you press a softkey.

    I'll...

    Re: How do I quit?

    Yeah, should have said, I fixed that as soon as I saw it mentioned here, thanks.

    Thanks for that. Basically, it seems I have to implement a command listener.

    Re: How do I quit?

    I have a similar method - destroyApp - which is a method of Midlet, which I'm subclassing in my J2MEVexedMidlet class.

    But my J2MEVexedMidlet class creates a J2MEVexed object, and it is from...

    Re: How do I quit?

    destroyApp is part of the Midlet interface. I didn't think I could call that myself. Calling exit() makes sense only it's not in scope from my code, so I can't. I'm probably missing something...

    Re: How do I quit?

    I'm reading the keys with:

    int keyStates = getKeyStates();

    if ((keyStates & GAME_C_PRESSED) != 0)
    bRestartLevel = true;

    In my 'run' method I restart the level if required, move...

    Re: How do I quit?

    I have no commands or commandActions or anything, and I don't want any. (I'm handling the UI completely myself.) Or are you saying I *have* to call exit in that way and there's no other way to do...

    Re: How do I quit?

    Thanks.
    But I can't see any of the methods in J2MEVexedMidlet from J2MEVexed. Do I have to make one of the methods static, or pass something into J2MEVexed?

    How do I quit?

    I've managed to get most of this game working, but I can't quit.

    It's being called from a midlet like this:

    Loading GIFs (on NetBeans)

    I have a problem loading some GIFs into my code. I've tried saving from Paint and Paint Shop Pro and sometimes the result is a file I can't read. If I play around with the image a little while I...

    Re: createImage and passing strings to it!

    I think I've got it working. There's something funny about the way my old copy of Paint Shop Pro saved my gifs. I loaded them all into Paint and then saved them again and those ones work fine. I...

    Re: createImage and passing strings to it!

    Thanks, but there's nothing wrong with the location, or file format. It works when I hard code the filename and load 1 image, and now I want to change the function so that I can load a file whose...

    Re: createImage and passing strings to it!

    I want to have the method return an image, which I then run createimage on again to store in an array of images. All I want the function to do is to perform createimage on a filename and return a...

    I'm using the emulator, not my phone. My phone (n70) does support gif.

    createImage and passing strings to it!

    This has to be a classic beginners problem, but I can't solve it!

    I need to load 10 or so image files. I used to have this:

    try{
    myimage = Image.createImage( "/graphics.gif");...

    Re: Problems with NetBeans 5.0

    In the end the solution was to the the image in the same directory as the source code. This doesn't really explain why it sometimes worked before, but at the moment I just want to get on and learn...

    Problems with NetBeans 5.0

    If I have a project called MyGame, and there's a file called MyPic.gif in the MyGame subdir (in, say, "c:\nb\") , so I load it like this:

    imMyImage = Image.createImage("/MyPic.gif");

    Thanks. I'm currently testing my game using the emulator you get as part of the Sun Wireless Toolkit - presumably there's a Nokia one that I can configure to behave like an N70, and which supports...

    Currently...

    Beginner J2ME questions

    Can I read/write individual pixels in Midp2/cldc 1.1? If so, I'm having trouble finding out how!

    Cheers.
  20. Re: Is Nokia going to abandon the Netbeans Platform support?

    I found it very easy - it was about the first thing I did with NetBeans. I think it's the case that you can add any emulator you like to NetBeans if you know how to invoke it on the command line,...

    Where are the docs?

    Where do I get MIDP2 docs for J2ME? I'm reading about threads, but the docs I got from Sun's site don't contain anything about threads or runnable. The J2SE docs do, but they don't contain anything...

    Re: Which version of Java?

    Thanks all, for the help.
