Re: Using Camera API requires too much memory

    Yessir,

    I observed the same problem.

iFile.Close() does indeed belong in the RunL() method, according to my understanding.

Placing it there fixes the file open problem every time, for me.

    RThread().Id().Id() will return a number.
  3. Does ViewFinderFrameReady keep serving while still image capture is completing ?

In the MCameraObserver implementation for receiving bitmaps from the viewfinder, if the viewfinder is left on during a still image capture, does the viewfinder continue to send bmps thru ?

    I ask...

possibly you are trying to debug a different executable than the one you think ? I did that once.... Make sure that the compiled exe is indeed the one being debugged, that it is selected for...

    Re: JPEG Quality memory error

Yeah, I reckon too. It prolly only has 4 - 5 (maybe 3 ?) compression settings. Interestingly tho, even on the lowest settings (like 10) capture time is still the same as on 84.

    I wish I knew...
  6. Re: difference between camera burst, and taking stills consecutively ?

    Hi Sorcery.

Tried built in app burst mode with 1024x768 - still takes the same 2.2 seconds per cap. Are other nokia devices significantly faster in burst mode ?

    With async disk writes, thanks...

    Re: JPEG Quality memory error

There is an interesting limit in the jpeg accelerator chip in the N95 8GB. Running aribitrarily many sequential captures at 5 megapixel at 84 quality, with no disk writes takes about 2350ms, but same...

  9. Re: difference between camera burst, and taking stills consecutively ?

N95 8GB has burst mode in the built in app - but it still seems just as fast as if I get my program to capture images as quickly as possible ? About 2.2 seconds per shot, roughly.

    I'll try post...

    Re: JPEG Quality memory error

After a bit of messing round, I have got the example app to capture at 100 quality, resulting in filesizes around the 800k mark.

Two things I found contributed to the success:

    in void...
  12. Re: difference between camera burst, and taking stills consecutively ?

I'm going to guess, after further study of the architecture of the phone, that burst may permit the camera to begin capture whilst the compressor chip is still working on encoding the previous image....

  14. difference between camera burst, and taking stills consecutively ?

Can someone please explain what difference in speed, or any other differences, that result from using burst mode over taking consecutive stills programmatically ?

    Thanks - using 9.2 on an N95 8gb.
  15. Re: leave emulator running and restart debug session ?

    Excellent !

Not to dampen Lauri's excellent advice, but it took a bit of fiddling for me to get it going. Here is what I had to do in the debug configuration window:

  18. how to get on-the-fly error highlighting in carbide.c++.1.2 ?

I have been searching for a way to get carbide to highlight errors in my source as I type, the same way that JBuilder 2006 does for java code.

Re: getSnapshot too slow on N95

Pardon me if this is too simple a workaround, but couldn't you use either the viewfinder images, or capture as video, and get your low rez, high capture rate images from there ?

    Just decimate the...

Anyone know where to find benchmark data for things like memory speed, seek time, etc for the memory in S60 devices ? N95 8GB in particular ?
