    capabilites required

    Hi All,

After searching the forum and going through the list of capabilites required for
    each function :
    http://www.symbian.com/developer/tec...Capablity.html

1). I am still not able to fugure out the capabilites required for Http Transactions.I am using RHttpTransaction.SubmitL() to load images to a site.

2). And what the capabilites required for listening to SMS and capturing the SMS before they go in inbox?

3). For autostarting I figured out that it should be symbiansigned.Am I correct?

What are the capabilites required for all the above?
Do they need to be Symbian Signed? or Self signed will do ?
If I want to distribute my application freely, will that require Symbian Signing?

Can I embed all these three applications in a single sis file and sign them with one single certificate?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Regards.

    Hello Tina,

I am not sure about this particular.

You need ReadUserData, WriteUserData (I have just confirmed before some days)

3). For autostarting I figured out that it should be symbiansigned.Am I correct?
I think you are refering SymbianSigned as Developer Certificate. Am i right?
Your application needs to be signed with Developer Certificate for autostarting.
However i read this somewhere in the forum. Not tested yet with Self-Siging.

If I want to distribute my application freely, will that require Symbian Signing?
You can surely submit for Freeware. That's the best option i think. It won't cost you, as name suggests.

Can I embed all these three applications in a single sis file and sign them with one single certificate?
If you are going for embedded Sis then you need to sign them individually before going to embedd in one .Sis file.
Or you can give multiple entries in a single .pkg file.

I hope this will help you at some extent.

    Re: capabilites required

    Hi Kiran,

    Thanks for your reply.
    A few more queries.

1). I guess I require the NetworkService capability for Http Transaction.
So for all the capabilites required by my application I need to get a developer certificate ? Will I need the ACS publisher id ?
As I require >100 IMEIs should that be phone manufacturer approved?

Self Signing wont do for me right?
So even if I want to distribute my application freely I will need to
pay the cost for it(for the Dev Cert and ACS publisher od)...Am I right?

    Regards

There is no such provision for >100 IMEI for Developer Certificate in the .PDF. You don't require ACS ID for 1 IMEI.
If you want to test for 1-100 IMEIs then you need ACS Publisher ID.

No. You don't need to pay for Developer Certificate and ACS publisher Id in case of Freeware.
Publisher Certifier will use their ACS Publisher ID on behalf of you.

    Hi Kiran,

You need ReadUserData, WriteUserData (I have just confirmed before some days)
how did you intercept SMS before reaching the inbox?
I'm trying a Bio parser, but when the message arrives I get a security error when the parser is going to be invoked. The bio parser dll has all the capabilities I can sign with my developer certificate.

    Thanks in advance

Tina, why would you need >100 IMEIs ? Anyway, until your applications is ready you can work with just 2 or 3 devices and then expand the tests if needed, but 99 should be enough ?.

As for what capabilities are needed I am amazed that people still do not see the connection between using the network (GSM or data, through any of the APIs available) and the NetworkServices capability. It could be that other capabilities are confusing but at least this one should be clear enough.

I think Kiran got that right:

1 => no acs publisher id required
    1 - 100 => acs publisher id required

Yep, all too right. This is a good sign that I should call it a day... I was confusing it with the manufacturer approved IMEIs number.
