Extra E90 screen size in the S60 3rd edition FP1 emulator

With the E90 officially announced, how about providing the files needed for the S60 3rd ed FP1 emulator to emulate the E90 screen.

I have been doing some hacking, but I can't even get the emulator to recognize some extra screen sizes that were available in the S60 3rd ed SDK, not even after manipulating wsini.ini.

Hi Sander, I think there will be a new SDK available soon.
    Symbian S60 OS9.2 (or 9.3) - don't know.
    Or?

Yep, but the E90 is Fp1 device, thus it would be better to get it working on the right SDK emulator.

Re: Extra E90 screen size in the S60 3rd edition FP1 emulator

    Any update on the matter?

Would it be possible to enable the 800x352 screen resolution by modifying some of the configuration files? I tried to change Epoc32\Data\epoc_320x200 to

    Code:
    PhysicalScreenWidth 5810
    PhysicalScreenHeight 2556
    ScreenWidth 800
    ScreenHeight 352
    ScreenOffsetX 30
    ScreenOffsetY 120
    ...
But with no success (the emulator changed its screen size, but OS still showed 320x240.

In general, if you want to add a new resolution, in addition to modifying epoc.ini and epoc_<width>x<height>.ini you also have to modify Window Server's configuration \Epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\z\system\data\wsini.ini (and \Epoc32\Data\sdk_info.properties to make SDK emulator cycle through the resolutions correctly).

Refer to Symbian's developer library concerning wsini.ini configuration.

Did you manage to get the userinterface also to scale to 800x352? (I did get the emulator to show large screen (white area), but emulator screen is in one corner of the area.

No. Even with changing sdk_info.properties and adding a NUMSCREENMODES to wsini.ini did not help. I tried to enable the 352*416 screens that are already in the files but that did not work. So getting an E90 mode to work is still harder.

Also, when do we get the 800 point resolution supported in the carbide.j?

If you are a pro member you can download the additional skins which I think have it in them

Re: Extra E90 screen size in the S60 3rd edition FP1 emulator

    Hi all,
I've tried to change the emulators screen size with manipulating files:
    epoc.ini
    wsini.ini
    sdk_info.properties

I use SDK S60 3rd FP1_2 and I only have 240x320 and 320x240 resolutions, I need to test my custom controls on different screen sizes. I tried to write my own epoc_176x208.ini and epoc_208x176.ini files, based on supplied with sdk epoc_240x320.ini. The screen changes but not exactely as I wanted. The Screen size is the original 240x320 but emulator dispalys only a part of a system in a rect of 176x208 so sth is changing. In the help files there are screenshots of emulator properties with different resolutions than 240x320 so it is possible.

Can you tell me what else I should do to make it work? If its necesery I will put here contents of files I've created.

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

I think Nokia is proceeding in wrong order by first getting E90 devices to the market and then maybe someday offering the necessary support in developer tools.

I think developer tools that support E90 should have been released in advance, possibly as a preview edition.

That way we developers could prepare our software before the customers start to buy E90 and ask questions. Nokia should treat developers as first class citizens and not as some geeks to be ignored.

    Thanks for the comments,
I personally feel that every device that is launched by nokia commerically should release a public sdk so that developers can know the platfrom well before it gets ported to actual device , and its issues there of...

Nokia might want to generate its profit by not making it public and can deliver that pro members that entirely depends on nokia as it is its own platform and rights to do so..

wht we expect any device of its launch and tools should be made public tools so that things move faster..

and we are developers who are here to make things go a smooth way and want the things in the way it should be to its platform programmers...

Hope any of nokia member will reply to this post to make it more reasonable answer from their side..
