    Navigation Software for N95?

    Hello,

Not sure if this is the best forum for my question but not having any luck in others!

I am considering purchasing the N95 for its integrated GPS and Camera to use in route planning for walking trips. I currently use Memory Map software for this route planning but it is not compatible with Symbian.

Does anyone know of any good Route planning (with OS maps preferrably) for Symbian devices?

    Cheers,
    Michael

First of all, N95 has preinstalled 'Nokia maps' application which works with internal GPS (application is also available for other N and E series devices).
An excerpt from the press release:
"The application allows people to view where they are on a map, search for points-of-interests (POI) around them and create routes to get them there free of charge. Smart2go allows for mapping and routing in over 150 countries and with an additional purchase has support for full turn-by-turn satellite navigation in over 30 countries."

You can also use other sortware like TomTom, Route66 (but currently they use external GPS, so you'll need to wait for internal GPS support)

AFAIK, there are plans to release a version of Memory-Map compatible with Symbian Smartphones.

Don't hold your breath for MM.

Take a look at Viewranger it's a good mapping app for S60 devices with complete OS map coverage.

Why don't you just download the free Maps client from www.smart2go.com and try it out? It is free of any charge, not even a trial version although claimed to be a beta version. Only for additional guides and navigation you'd have to pay.

Note, that by default no geodata is preinstalled, hence the software would download everything from the server, hence if you don't have a data flat rate use the maploader sw to download the geodata in the firstplace and use Maps in offline mode.

In case you need a tool primarily for route planning and panning the map or even to locate yourself with an internal or external GPS receiver this should be sufficient and it's gratis!!!

    Re: Navigation Software for N95?

    Hi,

I was also looking for such software, and couldn't find anything that suits me.
Therefore I started to work on my own implementation, based on pyS60.
It's open source, but doesn't have all the features & stability that gpsdash/
    oziexplorer provide.
You can find it here, if you want to give it a try:

    I placed an announcement here:

    Regards,
    Mark.

If you are looking for offline vector map application to use with N95, you can find that application at:
www.digitalmobilemap.com click on Free VGPS Download, extract and install VGPS179 to use with N95 internal GPS.
