Are e32dbm files compatible between emulator and device?

I created a e32dbm file in emulator through anydbm, and copied the resulting file to the device, using PyS60 1.3.8 SDK in 2ndEdFP3 SDK emulator.
At least with 1.3.1 Python on 1stEd device the file opened ok, but I had trouble accessing the contents.

    So two questions really:
Are there differences in dbm file format across Symbian versions?
Should the same .e32dbm work both in emulator and device?

Re: Are e32dbm files compatible between emulator and device?

Well, at least one problem turned out to be a bug in Python 1.3.1 release, in that
db.get(key) would return the key, and not the value.
    if db.has_key(key): return db[key]
    seems to work.

But still at least the md5 sum of phone and emulator generated e32dbm files did not match. Is there a timestamp by any chance that would cause this?
