unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

    hello,
i have recently installed the codewarrior IDE v3.1 on my pc. but when i try to import the helloworldbasic.mmp file into it it gives the following error

    "Failed to run makmake.
System error: the system cannotfind the file specified."
    and then this msg:
"the makmake tool failed to run. Project creation aborted."

Although the file is there but i dont know why it is unable to find it!
Also when i try to run the hello world console application through command prompt i get the msg:
    c:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3\Series60Ex\helloworldbasic\group>bldmake bldfiles
'perl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch

Now i dont know what is the problem. I have installed Active Perl v5.6.1 and SDK Series60m 2nd I am also using vista! so is it some sort of compatibility issue? because all the installations seem to be successful. Please somebody help me!

    Cheers!

Re: unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

First see if Perl is working by calling "perl -version" on a command prompt. Then ... well, I have no idea if CodeWarrior itself can deal with Vista or not.

I guess you're paying the price for being an early adopter of Vista. Do let us know how this progresses...

Re: unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

well i did try calling perl and got this msg:

    C:\Users\Muniba>perl -version
'perl' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

I dont know why this is the msg as the perl installations went fine!
so do i uninstall the perl and reinstall it again? Also do i have to install codewarrior again after i have reinstalled perl?

    Question

What is the best version of ActivePerl to use with Windows Vista?

    Answer

The best version of ActivePerl to use on Windows Vista is ActivePerl 5.8.8.819 or later.

ActivePerl 5.8.8.819 passes the same suite of tests on Windows Vista that it does on Windows XP and other supported versions of Windows.

ActivePerl's known issues on Windows Vista include:
    • PerlIS and PerlEx are installed but not automatically configured due to differences in the script extension mapping process for IIS
    • the OLE browser will not function with Internet Explorer 7
You can check the version by running Perl from its installation directory (default C.\Perl\bin). Then make sure that this directory is included in system's PATH environment variable (if still applicable for Vista :) ). If this does not solve your problem try http://support.activestate.com/products/ActivePerl

    No need to reinstall CodeWarrior.

Re: unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

If you can call "perl -version" from other directory than where it is installed that means that the PATH is rightly configured. However, you can check its content by calling "echo %path%" at a command prompt.

I do not have access to a Vista installation so my help on this is going to be limited. Let's hope that other developers will jump in with their advices. What would be the next problem you face during the command line build ?

Re: unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

Can you please confirm that you are able to build a Symbian project on Vista using the command line tools and/or CodeWarrior? I'm sure this would be a good news for some developers ...

Re: unable to import .mmp file into codewarrior IDE

    Hi,
I have got carbide 1.2 and S60 3rd Ed installed under Windows Vista (tm) and compiling under emulator and this is in procedure answered in thread
    http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...ighlight=vista

Since checking I have been updating S60 3rd Ed FP1, which uses the Arm CSL Toolchain for GCCE. The problem is that the CSL Toolchain return a "strange value" to s60 3rd ed FP1 causing path errors to Perl and Carbide.

The Carbide 1.1 is a lost cause and no fix is possible.

I have managed to build helloworld from carbide.c++ 1.2 and s60 3rd ed fp1 as I have modified (hacked!) the s60 files to make hello world.sis.

The emulator starts after two seconds stop no error message!.
So no emulator. Main problems are the wrong path set to files

The most important is add "C:\Perl\bin;" to you VISTA system before you start
in command line give "path" command

    Good Luck
    Jim
