    RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    I ma adding an alarm to the server using
    RASCliSession and TASShdAlarm
    I set the alarm sound with
    TASShdAlarm aAlarm;
    aAlarm.SoundName().Copy(path_to_sound_file)
    then I add the alarm.
    At the time, the alarm is played as specified
    but the sound played is always the default one.
    The alarm doesnt play my sound.
    I'v checked and my sound file is on disk and it also is correctly added in alarm server, but for my god i dont understand why always the default sound is played. Does anybody had this problem ? Is anything must be done further before to add the alarm regarding the sound ?
    Thank you.

    Re: RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    That is a known issue, the custom sound name is ignored.

    thanks tomuta..obviously not your fault ..
    the end-users will have the results somekind like this :

    Re: RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    I will make sure that this issue is documented in the Technical Library and I'll also create a feature request for better support of custom alarms.

    So far the engine is handling only Clock and Calendar alarms, the ones with custom categories work more or less by accident. With the proper category set the alarm is played accordingly.

    So I would guess the only choice you can give to your user at this point is Clock or Calendar type and then he can customize those sounds through the Clock/Calendar applications.

    Or you could intercept the alarm yourself and play the custom sound.

    Re: RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    yes, I have used a custom category for alam in order to easily identify it.
    docs says'.. The alarm server ignores the category. It is relevant to the client alone. '
    Anyway I see a const in .h files
    // Constants
    /** A category that can be assigned to identify clock alarms to the client. The
    server does not distinguish between alarm types. */
    const TAlarmCategory KASCliCategoryClock = { 0x101F5030 };

    I will try use KASCliCategoryClock for my alarm.

    Beside of these, I understand I could use CCalAlarm ?
    My main problem is I want the alarm to have daily repeat definition and not sure what other APIs support this outside of RASCliSession/alarm server.

    Thank you

    Re: RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    checked with KASCliCategoryClock
    It doesnt work too. The sound is not played. A default sound is played instead, somekind of beeep-beep.
    More, in both cases with custom or KASCliCategoryClock category
    the phone vibrates also. and obviosly this should be controlled also via API but I dont see any such methods.

    Finally, anywant have some more experience with this ?
    I just want a simple alarm added with daily repeat.

    It is pitty we have to loose so much time asking each other 'what to do' .. etc. Things like this could be simple written in docs.

    thank you

    Re: RASCliSession, alarm and sound

    new results:
    the alarm plays the calendar sound file no matter what sound file i set via alarm server RASCliSession::AlarmAdd()
    so it seems in fact the alarm added with RASCliSession goes under the calendar server. If I add the alarm via RASCliSession/ alarm server and then go to the Calendar app on phone and change the sound in its Settings, my alarm will play this latter calendar's sound ...
    interesting ... isn't it ?
    as far as i see, there is no where mentioned the Alarm Server is somekind linked with the Calendar server.

    My application worked ok before to add the alarm stuff code. After I added the alarm code it only worked if I added Write/ReadUserData capabilities,
    but NOWHERE is written the alarm api requires these caps.
    So, finally, should I code anymore further for Symbian ... ?

    Thanks
