Basically what I want to do is have a base project which can then be "copied" and used with more tailored stuff. Simply copying project directory entirely and trying to rename project name etc. seems to be tricky since lot's of stuff is generated and the project settings are decentralized very effectively...

I know that one option would be to develop a framework type of thing and always create a new project and "include" the framework. This can be hard to combine with using IDE for creating UI for example. Try to inherit a Form or a View from your own base class.
