    Hi Leo,
I don't quite understand your question...
Do you mean that if it will be available on other platforms than
    windows/unix?

    Re: Symbian on PC

I understood the question. I hope to see that happen. Linux started off as an i386 operating system, and it has been ported to ARM, MIPS, Sparc/Ultrasparc, DEC Alpha, PowerPC, and so on. When the Symbian kernel is available as open source, there is nothing stopping the developer community from porting it to i386 and even other platforms. Symbian is a pretty decent operating system and quite stable - it could work as a PC platform. It is one of the world's most popular operating systems already.

    Re: Symbian on PC

Needless to say I have been googling 'symbian on pc'... I do believe rival OSes (at least Linux and Windows) benefit from their past, when they were running in big machines with keyboards and mice. Developers are so much used to their PC tools and they want to be sitting inside a sandbox they are playing, not next by. That is why, I think, Symbian does not have very positive scent.

This must not be hard at all to create real x86 baseport and run it e.g. virtual PC.

This idea should be discussed with the Symbian Foundation. Try http://ideas.symbian.org

If you insert the word running into that search, you will get an interesting hit.

This is one argument being made for Qt, but I'm not sure how well it "sticks".

There are no technical reasons why Symbian can't run on an Intel CPU (on a PC), and it actually does; there are within Symbian Foundation (at least) baseports of Symbian to Intel based PCs.

Yes, that is what you find with Google after you add 'running' to the query 'symbian on pc' -- just our trollish friend, Haha888999 simply did not do that.

    Re: [moved] Symbian on PC

In fact, as I understand it, the Symbian "emulator" on PC is running native x86 instructions. And the Symbian file structure, et al, is strangely similar to DOS/Windows.

I suspect that the main roadblock to a full-blown Symbian implementation on PC is that there's simply no point in having another DOS that is less capable than the MS offerings and to varying degrees incompatible with them. There'd be little software for it, no "killer apps" to draw people to it.

An interesting mental exercise, perhaps, but pointless.
