Question How to get UID for legacy range (class 1)?

I need to support old Symbian 2nd phones, like S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 1.

If I use UID from class 2 (0x20000000 - 0x2FFFFFFF) it works for Symbian3/UIq and older 2nd editions phones like like S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 3.

But it fails to run on S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 1. As soon as I switch to class 1 UID it works. Problem is that I have only one UID from legacy range and I need to write new application and use different UID.

Is it possible to get new UID from symbian from protected range class 1 (0x10000000 - 0x1FFFFFFF)?

Are you sure that it is a range issue? Can you give details about the "But it fails to run on S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 1." part?

According to Symbian Signed any protected UID will do just fine. The page includes also and email address so you can contact Symbian Signed directly for clarifications.

    I am sure (almost .
I have 2 second editions phones, one Nokia 6670 which is OS: v7.0s and N90 which is OS: v8.1.
    I use protected UID: 0x2........
Same application works on N90, but when I install on 6670 it installs, but application does not have icon and it does not start, exits right away.
When I changed UID to 0x1..... it installs and runs fine.
In case of application error N90 should behave same way as 6670.

I sent email to support, no replay yet, so I decided to try here.
Does anyone successfully use UID from class 2 range on v7.0 version of OS?

I'v got 14 dll's all in the protect range working fine on 7.0x devices.

You are building the dll using the 7.x sdk and not the 8.1 sdk?

    Paul.Todd,
By protected range you mean starting from 0x2... right?

I am using v7.0s sdk for both 7.x and 8.1 phones.

    Yes, here is one 0x2000XXXX.

Did you enable error reporting to see what error you are getting on the device?

Re: How to get UID for legacy range (class 1)?

    Paul.Todd,
    Thanks, I found the problem.
I use my own build system based on scons to build application.
I just noticed that I missed to update UID for .aif file generation.

So my .aif had old UID and 7.0s was crashing, when version 8.1 was able to handle this error gracefully, I still missed icon but application worked. Sorry for confusion and thanks a lot for you help.
