    Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Hello,

    I'm trying to use the VisualTagConnection in order to read a bar Codes with a 6131.
    In my MIDlet, one of the first thing i do is to try to know whether the needed symbologies are supported by the API implementation:

    String[] symbologies = SymbologyManager.getReadSymbologies();

    But this method (SymbologyManager.getReadSymbologies())return me null. Does it means that no symbologies are supported by the API ? Or should i do other things before this instruction ?

    Thanks for your help,

    Simon

    Juarez, Nice to see this link of 6131 NFC. I missed it. I guess 6131 and 6131NFC are different different devices with different API support.

    @Simon: Which device are you using 6131 or 6131NFC?

    Regards
    Gopal

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Hello!

    I work with an emulator of 6131 and a function getGenerateSymbologies() returns me only "ean-upc". Function getReadSymbologies() returns me only "code-39".

    SymbologyManager.getReadSymbologies()
    Returns the list of symbologies that are supported by the API implementation for reading visual tags.

    SymbologyManager.getGenerateSymbologies()
    Returns the list of symbologies that are supported by the API implementation for visual tag image generation.

    Before the purchase of telephone I would like to know
    with what types of tags able to work a real device?

    I very ask to help in the decision of this problem

    Hi all,

    Please note that there's a new section here at Forum Nokia specific to NFC. It is here - http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...play.php?f=144

    I have not tested what you are talking about but I can give it a try, I will let you know. Unfortunately I don't have a Nokia 6131 NFC here it me for testing.

    Kind regards,

    Kind regards,
    Well, it does support SOME parts of JSR-257... Visual Tags are NOT one of them, at least in FW version 3.12...
    I will try to update the Firmware and see what I get... It would be great if someone can give some info about which parts of the JSR-257 are currently supported.

    Regards

    Hi Ricardo,

    I have one Nokia 6131 NFC here with me, could you elaborate (or provide code) regarding what you want to check?

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Hi!
    First of all, thanks for the reply.

    In the SDK documentation, more precisely in the package javax.microedition.contactless.visual, there's an example on how to generate and read visual tags.
    [(...)Nokia_6131_NFC_SDK_1_1/docs/nfc/javax/microedition/contactless/visual/package-summary.html]
    I made some minor changes to the example (built a MIDlet, got the image from the phone's camera, etc) and I get the following exception:
    javax.microedition.io.ConnectionNotFoundException: The requested protocol does not exist vtag://

    This probably means that this phone doesn't have this part of the JSR-257 implemented yet

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Hi,

    The message is clear, it seems that it is not supported. However, I am not sure, the JavaOne presentation below has been prepared by Nokia as well and there is a demo, so I am not sure if it should be supported or if the device used during the demo is from a special build/firmware by Nokia.

    The Forum Nokia Experts might help you as they may have access to such information.

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Ok, so I got the cable, and checked for updates using the Nokia Software Updater. The program states that I have the latest version of the firmware (3.12), for the model Nokia 6131x (RM-216). That, together with the symptoms reported in my previous posts, made me conclude that Visual Tags are not supported at all in the device (please correct me if I'm wrong).
    I still don't understand why the documentation on the 6131 NFC SDK included the VTags samples, if they don't work at the real device...

    Ricardo / Saymon

    6131 NFC only supports RFID tags, no visual tags. I'll check what should be done with the SDK materials so there would be no confusion in the future.

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    Hello hartti.
    Thanks a lot for the information.
    The information could be explicit on the SDK. The sample code on the usage of Visual Tags and the Nokia Demos at JavaOne didn't help to clear things up.

    One more information, if possible: Is there any phone (planned or in production) that supports visual tags?

    Thank you once again

    Re: Problems with Nokia 6131 and the JSR 257

    In general this is the way Javadocs are delivered with the Nokia SDKs. The SDK contains full Javadoc for the specific API even though only parts of that API might be implemented. See for example Series 40 3rd Edition FP2 SDK, which contains the full SATSA-API Javadoc, even though only APDU package is implemented.
    Could be confusing I agree.

    Current products with JSR-257 with support for VisualTag - no.
    Cannot comment (and also I do not have information) about the future products.
