    S40 3rd FP2 File API and directory

    My Problem
('Application access' for 'data access' and 'Add and edit data' change to 'Ask every time' for read the directory)
    Access to directory file:///c:/Gallery/Received files/
    = not present
    file:///c:/Gallery/ = OK
    file:///c:/Gallery/Themes = OK
    ......
real name for Gallery is predefgallery ....
real name for Themes is predefthemes ......

directory 'Received files/' = not present in the directorylist?
Why or where the problem lies?!

the directory (predefreceivedfiles) not present in the s40 3rd fp2 by 6300 and 6131NFC?
Wehre ist directory, is hidden or?

    SecurityException!
    API DOC
    --
File access through the File Connection API may be restricted to files that are within a public context and not deemed private or sensitive. This restriction is intended to protect the device's and other users' files and data from both malicious and unintentional access. RMS databases cannot be accessed using the File Connection API. Access to files and directories that are private to another application, files and directories that are private to a different user than the current user, system configuration files, and device and OS specific files and directories may be restricted. In these situations, a java.lang.SecurityException is thrown from the Connector.open() method if the file, file system, or directory is not allowed to be accessed.

Unfortunately you do not have full access to the file system on any phone from Java ME. The limitations vary and you have to catch the SecurityExceptions in your code.

Re: S40 3rd FP2 File API and directory

I have problem with same series 40 3rd edition :
That is I can create file but can't create directory on file system.
It gives me exception like :

Java.io.IOException mkdir called for a file
    like this

I have used standard WTK code for file connection api demo named PDADemo

Can any one had same situation?

    Reply me soon.
    Thanks..

Ok one. I intercepted the Security Execption, but I want to read the listing. Over PC and PCSuite that is not a problem.

For WTK and Nokia devices the File System path is different. Have a look at this example. MIDP: FileConnection API Developer's Guide (with Example) v2.0

    Nokia S40 3rd FP2

My problem is not the program code. The question is, gives it a possibility the addressed listing to access? That the listing is, says also the Security exception there. Otherwise the program would spend no SE.

Re: S40 3rd FP2 File API and directory

mariosas, as I mentioned above in this same thread, you do not have full access to the phone file system from MIDlets.

    A little more details.
On some branded devices you do not have any file access for unsigned MIDlets. However if your MIDlet can access files even without signing, then signing does not give the MIDlet access to any additional directories.

Re: S40 3rd FP2 File API and directory

    Hi again,
Managed to resolve this by adding file path separator character to end of file path string.

    Good Luck,
    Avi.
