Where should one store settings for a dll (a screensaver plugin), if they should be backupable? Since the dll is loaded by more than one application (the screensaver server and the themes application), the settings can't be stored in a private directory. This far, I've stored them in \system\data, but as far as I know (and experiments confirm), files within \system directory can't be backed up.

So, where should I store the settings? If I store them within C:\Data, they sure are backed up, but also are visible to the end user.

I also tried to store the settings in a completely new directory (e.g. C:\MySettings), but wasn't able to back this up using registration tags like this:

<include_directory name="C:\MySettings" />

What's the common practice in this case?
