Citymap (with GPS feature) application for Nokia N95 and 6110 navigator

Dear Nokia N95 and Nokia 6110 navigator users,

I develop citymap (with GPS feature) application for mobile phone. You can watch demo movie from here:
    http://www.digitalmobilemap.com

I read the spec of Nokia N95 and Nokia 6110 navigator and know that these two phones have internal GPS receiver and support JSR179

You can download VGPS179 to test VGPS with your N95 and 6110 from here:
http://www.digitalmobilemap.com click on Free VGPS downloads

This citymap application contains the map of Praha center and it uses JSR179 API to talk to the phone's internal GPS receiver to track your position on the map.

VGPS179 was compiled with Sun development toolkit. Please let me know whether VGPS179 compiled by Sun development toolkit can work with N95 and 6110 or not.

If VGPS179 can not work with N95 and 6110, I will compile VGPS179 with nokia development toolkit (Carbide.j 1.5)

Re: Citymap (with GPS feature) application for Nokia N95 and 6110 navigator

Thanks to Nokia Remote Device Access service, I tested and confirmed VGPS179 can be installed and run on Nokia N95. However, the GPS in N95 remote device was not enable so my application can not get the lat/lon, it can only show the city map of Praha on N95.

If you have N95 and are staying in Praha center, can you help me to download VGPS179 from the link above, install it on N95. Then you turn N95's GPS on and test VGPS179 with N95.

If you have N95, staying in other city and willing to test offline GPS application, let me know your city name. I may have street map data for your city.

You can check your city map here:

Hi N95 and 6110 navigator users,

VGPS179 has been tested and confirmed working fine with Nokia N95 and Nokia 6110 navigator's internal GPS receiver.

VGPS179 has manage routes and waypoints feature. User can define and manage up to 5 routes. Each route can contain up to 20 waypoints. A label can be assigned to each route/waypoint. The label will help to memorize route/waypoint easily. A waypoint can be appended at the end of the route or inserted at the middle of the route. User can delete one waypoint or delete all waypoint of the route. A route can be saved and loaded again. User can also revert a route: waypoint end becomes waypoint start. With this manage routes/waypoints feature, user can plan a route before they go out and if user use this feature together with internal GPS receiver, VGPS179 will able to guide them along the route, go through all waypoints until reach the waypoint end of the route.

You can download VGPS179 to use with N95 and 6110 navigator from here:

    Hello,

Do you know if is there any application that makes the internal GPS of the 6110 navigator accessible from bluetooth?.

I wonder if Nokia has left open the internal GPS antenna to be used as a bluetooth GPS, any idea?.

If you want to make the internal GPS of the 6110 navigator accessible from bluetooth, you can use JSR179 to read lat/lon/altitude and speed from internal GPS. Use that information to make up NEMA sentence as a string data type. Then you use JSR82 to send the make up NEMA sentence to other bluetooth device.

You can buy JSR179 and JSR82 source code to use with 6110 navigator from http://www.j2megps.com

I also want to take this opportunity to update N95 and 6110 navigator users about the development of VGPS. From version 2.2 onward, VGPS provides you with full functions of an in car navigation application:

    1. GPS tracking --> VGPS talk to the phone's internal GPS to get lat/lon for real time tracking movement

    2. In car navigation --> VGPS will detect your heading direction and rotate the map so that your heading is always "UP" on the screen. You can mount your phone in the car.

    3. Auto Routing --> VGPS can find shortest route or fastest route. If you turn on GPS and follow the route, VGPS will guide you along the route with explicit turn arrow and speak to you when you need to turn left or turn right.

    4. Voice guidance --> VGPS speak to you when you need to turn left or turn right.

You can download VGPS179 version 2.2 to try on N95 and 6110 navigator from http://www.digitalmobilemap.com
