the best way to get an image from the camera

I am unsure of which way would be the best way to take an image within my application. Either use the external camera application view or implement the CCamera API.

If I was to use the external camera application view (as in view switching) I would somehow have to retrieve the latest photo taken when the view is switched back to my application... this seems a bit dodgy to me.

The only thing that's stopping me from using CCamera is that you can't use the shutter key on an N73 without an swevent capability (which I have no idea how you get - do u always have to pay?) and I'm not sure if I could get the focus working well enough to take clear pictures of text.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
    thanks, mel.

Re: the best way to get an image from the camera

The choice to be made depends on quite some things:
    1. Is it okay if the look and feel is sacrificed? If yes then you can just use the camera view with
great reduction in testing time. This time can be then dedicated to complete other features.
    2. Also is the application device type specific (only for N73)?If yes then better make this custom view.If no then use the camera view.
Also as far as auto focus control is involved,Nokia has relesed this example which shows how to control auto -focus on the supported devices.
    Check this example:

But how do you get the latest image taken from the external camera view?

The camera app saves the images in a fixed path like c:\images and e:\images.
So you can do a NotifyChange on these paths and see if any files are created or not.

    Mayur,

The only issue is that NotifyChange requires AllFiles capability and that is a manufacturer granted capability..unlike the SwEvent which just requires a cert/declaration to obtain..

    cheers

I could be wrong(And when I say that am usually wrong ),but I think that ALLFILES would be required if you want to monitor the private/restricted folders.
In case of public folders that should not be a problem.
    Let me check as well.

Am right .You can monitor public folders, but with private folders you need ALLFILES capability.
