How to open a Dialog from a MenuItem?

    Hai,
Iam vey new to symbian c++.In my application,I created a Menu and added MenuItems(such as Help,About etc;).When "Help" Menu Item is clicked it must display a Dialog. So,for this i added necessary code in .rss file and in
MyAppContainer.cpp I added the following code.

    CAknDialog *dialog = new (ELeave) CAknDialog();

But when I build this Application it is giving an error as
"illegal use of incomplete struct\union\class 'CAkDialog"

What is this Error?Pls reply for this.

    Bye,
    Jennie

    Hi,

you can use CAknMessageQueryDialog for this very easily.
See this wiki page for example http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...e_About_dialog

Just to add to what peter rightly said..

whenever u click on any of the menu items..u would get a callback in the HandleCommandL function there u check for the menu item pressed..and activate your dialog from there..using the link from peter.

otherwise for your error..i guess u forgot to include the .h file for the dialog..:-)

    Cheers

you need to add the required headers & libriaries for all classes you are using, thus have a look into SDK documentation to see which headers & libraries are needed for the CAkDialog class, and add them into your project.

Re: How to open a Dialog from a MenuItem?

Well..having a checkbox on the setting list is possible..:-

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._0_en.zip.html

I am not sure if u can emded it as any of the other controls on the dialog or not.

also when u say buttons on the dialog..isnt a touchscreen thing..something which wont be really of much use on a one handed S60 device..so u should put options on the right and the left softkey in this case.

    cheers
