Can anyone tell me a common method for compression and decompression

I have developed a project whose server is developed in C# and client in J2ME .Server applies GZip compression when sending string feed over network and client then have to decompress that string back into normal sequence of characters. Compression works fine in C# but in J2ME I 've tried plenty of experiments but none went successful . The most frequently tried one is GZIP.Inflate(byte[] Compressed) method from Apime API but it thorws IOException . Can anybody tell me what decompression technique to use or which is the most common method of compression/decompression i.e. it works fine in both platforms.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Hi Najeeb,

Please check the thread below as it has some information about ZIP/GZIP in Java ME.

However, what you are trying to achive is to have it decompressed automatically (as normal browsers do when you use the right response header), I implemented a Servlet Filter once before to have this scheme but I am not sure if you will be able to do that using the HttpConnection and the non-standard zip solutions available for Java ME.

Please let us know about your strategy, implementations and findings if possible.

    Kind regards,

    Have you tried TInyline GZIPInputStream?

    Hi prakash.raman,

Which RMI are you talking about? JRMP? Remote Method Invocation?

AFAIK it is available only on some CDC implementations. Xlets have a RMI package but it is not supposed to be used as RPC but for inter-Xlet communication.
