Application Size shown as Unknown in installer

My tester flagged as a bug the installer's showing "unknown" for the application size. I tried out several other installers (Opera, ScreenShare, HandyTaskMan) and found that they all do the same thing -- in the application information window displayed by the installer, "Application Size" is always "Unknown".

Is this a known problem? Is it a function of having multiple language resources as part of the package? Anything I can do in my package file headers or elsewhere to encourage the installer to display a useful value for application size?

    Thanks.

My guess is this is a difference due to the fact that it is not Symbian Signed.

IIRC there is a similar issue with the signed by field.

Basically it makes sense in that the siz cannto be guaranteed because it is not Symbian Signed.

We are experiencing this problem as well... and every app I've tested except for Gmail (java app?) shows up with "Unknown" size on my E61i.

Does anyone else have a more-definitive answer to this one?

Get the application Symbian Signed and it will fill in the fields

Re: Application Size shown as Unknown in installer

Thanks for the response, Paul... do you know this to be absolutely true?

I was looking at the source for the S60 3.0 Application Installation UI, and it appeared to me that the code was always loading the "Unknown" string for .sis files, though it would calculate the size for a .jar file.

I've been trying to discover if it's the same in 3.1 and 3.2 phones... but I haven't found it yet.

So don't be discouraged developers... I could be wrong, but it looks to me like it's just poorly done in the S60 source. Hopefully it's been fixed in later releases.

Well there is a very simple test, take a **Symbian signed** application and make sure its showing the correct details. (Try worldmate)

Re-sign it with your own certificate and see if the problem shows up.

I remember we had a defect logged internally at the company I work for and it was closed after we submitted it to Symbian Signed.

This appears to be an issue for every application. Tried installing worldmate and it did the same thing.

Sounds like what BobNilsen says is true.
