    identify S60 phone

    HI,

A number of times I have had to attempt to explain how to identify if a phone is running S60 to some non-tech person.

The easiest way I have found is for them to see if it has the S60 'menu' key. However, I cannot find a picture of it on the web anywhere.

Is there a better way to identify an S60 phone?
Is there a good photo of 'the button' anywhere (www.s60.com would seem the logical place, but I can't find an image of the button there)?

    Eeek!

    "
There's no S60 "swirly" key, instead there's a button with a picture of a house, which leads to the "home screen". According to the Nokia For Business website this is the new name for the active standby screen, and we assume you also use it to access the main application menu.
    "

So much for using the swirly key as an easy way to identify an S60 phone :(

What's left? Any other easy way?

Doesn't the Pencil key serve for what you want?

Do not take it too personal, but you might have looked at the picture first...

    No problem.

I'd looked at the pic, it shows the N73 keyboard.
Could you explain what you meant exactly?

    That happened a bit earlier.

Since in the "Eeek" post he was talking about swirl key, i didn't look at the picture, cause i thought menu key was the only one that had been taken out.
i've just checked the picture and saw pencil key isn't there really.

All the S60 (Series 60) phones I remember seen have the "About" application somewhere in the phone menu. Finding it is a good indication it is an S60 phone. If you run it, you will be sure (because text will say so).

Maybe you could also use the startup time as a reference, once Symbian-based phones take more time to boot than the others.

However, by reading the post, i understood the poster wanted to know how to identify a S60 phone only by looking to its physical details (without having to turn it on).

In this case, i was thinking about the keyboard's extra keys.
For example: (considering phones that don't have querty keyboard)

If the Nokia phone has all basic telephone keys (0 to 9, * and #), the joystick/Dpad, green, red, left and right softkeys, but besides them, it features another 3 keys or more in main keyboard (and not in other parts of the body, such as in left or right side), then it's a phone that runs Symbian OS.

For those phones with querty keyboard, i can't say anything, as i don't know the basic keys it has and what's the difference if comparated to a S40 querty keyboard.

Also i didn't understand if by saying "S60", the poster wants to know whether phone runs Symbian OS (could be a S80, for example), or it's a true S60 phone.

If it's the second case, i believe Petrib's suggestion is the best way.

Lastly, i assume poster is targeted at Nokia phones only.
