    Application data access!

    Hello,

I'm currently developing a MIDlet that reads and writes files into a mini SD memory card located in my Nokia 6131 phone.
I've got a question related to the application data access. Here is the current situation:

I deploy my MIDlet using the "Nokia Application Installer". I then need to go to the "App." menu of the phone, select my MIDlet, click on "Options", then go to "Application Access", then "Data access", then "Add and edit data". The "Add and edit data" menu allows to specify the data access rights:
    - Ask every time
    - Ask first time only
    - Always allowed
    - Not allowed

I would need to select "Always allowed" so that I'll not be prompted by a message asking me if I should allow the "application to edit and add new data in: Memory card" but this item is greyed out and is not selectable. At the moment, the only items that can be selected are "Ask every time" and "Not allowed".

Does someone know how to set this? Is it a setting somewhere when I build my source code? For information, I'm using Netbean 5.5.1 + Mobililty pack to develop my MIDlet.

Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cheers

    Re: Application data access!

I believe I actually know the answer to this one.

First, have you signed the MIDlet that you created?

If not, then you won't be able to ever turn off that prompt since it requires signing the MIDlet to be able to access those additional options.

As it is, even when you do sign the midlet, the default is to always prompt the user - at least for the Nokia phones.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Application data access!

Thanks amielf! It helped me a lot!
My MIDlet is now signed and I can now specify any of the application access attributes.

To access the external mini SD card, the .jad file needs also to contain the following properties:

    MIDlet-Permissions: javax.microedition.io.Connector.file.read, javax.microedition.io.Connector.file.write

    Thanks again!
