    Canvas UI example applications??

    Hi,

Im looking to built an advanced UI that has good look & feel qualities. At my current stage of J2ME programming Ive have only worked with the high level LCDUI API. The obvious next step would be to implement the UI using Canvas, but I want to be sure that the effort I put into learning the Canvas approach will enable me to build quality looking UI's (of course this also depends on my own abilities, but my question relates to the best tools/API's available).

So my question is can someone point me in the direction of example applications that use the canvas api's with 'good results'?

Also, if developers who have had experience with canvas feel there are better options out there (J2ME Polish, TWUIK etc) could they provide some feedback.

I have a feeling there will be a post like this, but for some reason the search functionality on the forum isnt working?

    Thanks in Advance.

Well friend, i am working on J2ME Polish for a long time now and the feature they have provided and the arcitecture they have created to develope UI is really cool, if u want to develop ur own ui using canvas download the source code of j2me polish and try to understand its architecture. well as far as i think it is easy to paint and create a good looking UI but wat is difficult is to give it such a architecture that it give stablity and flexibility at same time.

    Hello mika19,

in addition, S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 SDK MIDP SDK Beta enables next step in UI development known as eSWT. Here's quote from http://wiki.eclipse.org/How_to_use_eSWT_with_Midlets :

"eSWT provides a rich set UI components and can be used as an alternative UI toolkit to MIDP LCDUI provided that the MIDP runtime provider supports it." (Please note that eSWT will be available starting from S60 3rd Edition FP2 devices.)

In short: eSWT enables more visually and functionally evolved S60Java UI which resembles the Symbian C++ UI.

    eSWT plug-in download for S60 3rd Ed. FP2:

    Re: Canvas UI example applications??

    hi,

thanks for that info, I've just tried to download the eswt zip file from the Nokia forum and when I extract it only have the release notes file? No jar etc.

Does anyone know a mirror that has the correct zipped files.

    Thanks

p.s - ive just realised that my development phone (N95) doesnt support the required S60 3rd Ed FP 2 which is a shame.

Yes, I've encountered this problem too. I managed to open the zip file with WinRAR, you can get it from here:

Yes, unfortunately eSWT is only for S60 3rd Ed. FP2 devices. As you've previously stated, there are other UI development options which come in question for N95.
