    secret recording

    Hi
Anyone fancy writing me an app to secretly record voice on a s40 phone.
Would require no obvious signs of installtion
    would require no UI
would require all day long recording and saving to file, with incorrect extension so can be extracted off the phone, extension changed and then played back

    Re: secret recording

For many reasons, this is not possible
    - no background MIDlets on Series 40
    - even trusted 3rd party MIDlets woudl ask permission for recording at least once unless the user has manually changed the API access settings to always allowed
    - recording that long would probably cause the phone to run out of memory
    -...

Find a phone fully compatible MIDP 2.x
    - even trusted 3rd party MIDlet would ask permission for recording at least once unless the user has manually changed the API access settings to always allowed
signed with proper domain with sufficient permission defined in .jad
    - recording that long would probably cause the phone to run out of memory
record to file system, e.g 8G SD Card

    ...
    ...
But, the processor must be powerful enough, Display.setCurrent(NULL) in startApp() must be finished in less than 0.7s (human will be noticed if the launch time longer than 0.7s), which seems mission impossible.

iqueen, I missed some of your points...

There is no background running requirements in the MIDP 2.x spec.

What comes to signing, the default access right for multimedia recording is not "ask always", not even for signed MIDlets. If you get your MIDlet signed to operator or manufaturer domain, then yes, always allowed is selected. This is not however possible unless you are closely partnering with either manufacturer or operator.

Recording to the file system does not really help on many devices, as the recorded stream might not be written to the file until commit is called.
