    Backwards compatibility

    Hello everybody,

If I develop a software based on s40 platform, will it still work on S60 platform?

from my understing, because its different OS, it shouldnt work.

    thanks in advance,

    Hello,

you should go to Forum Nokia page and check what can be developed to the different platforms (s40 and S60) and their different feature packs.

There is so much stuff that it's not vise to copy it here.

    Hi DanBenjamin,

if you will choose to develop the software in C++, you will be limited by S60 platform or more generally by Symbian platform. It will not be possible to run it on S40, where is only JVM. If you will select the J2ME, it will be possible (probably with some minor changes) to support both platforms.

Yep, only Java ME and Flash Lite is available on Series 40 side. No native programming (Nokia OS). If you develop with Java or Flash, you will be able to run your apps (maybe with some tweaks on S60 devices too)
