Is the XML parser of JSR 172 in Symbian 9.2 flawed?

    Hi all,
I posted a detailed error description in my blog: http://www.t-king.de/blog/index.php?post=20080115110334

It would be nice if we could discuss this problem.

    Best regards,
    Thomas

Re: Is the XML parser of JSR 172 in Symbian 9.2 flawed?

Any possibility that this invalid return XML string is coming from the web server? From what I read, it works well in other phones, so the possibility is slim, but I had to ask

Where can I download the app for testing with some 9.2 devices?

    Hi Daniel,
thanks for your fast reply. As I wrote in my blog post I also looked into the network traffic transmitted between the cell-phone and the PC. The XML string was correct while traveling over the air but invalid after returned by the Web Service. Somewhere in its way up the stack a modification occurred to the string.
You can download MobileKnox containing a workaround to handle the problem from www.mobileknox.com. You also need DesktopKnox to be able send data back and forth. What else do you need?

    Hi Daniel,
the predecessor of MobileKnox called Safe does not contain the workaround and hence runs not successfully on Symbian 9.2-based devices. On Symbian 9.1-based devices the synchronization process will complete without any error message. You can download Safe and SafeDesktop from www.javawi.de.

    Have fun.

The only known issue I can remember having anything to do with XMl parsing is this

Re: Is the XML parser of JSR 172 in Symbian 9.2 flawed?

    Hi all,
please try my application called Safe. This one works on Symbian 9.1 devices and not with Symbian 9.2. The source code is also available under the terms of the GPL: www.javawi.de.

You can use this application as a starting point to start your debugging.

    Best regards,

    t-k-s

It looks like that this bug indeed exists (like you did not know it :-)

It is going to be fixed in the platform sw branch, but I cannot tell if/when it is going to be fixed in existing products.
We'll add a known issue in the Knowledge Base about this (most likely edit the existing one referred above...)

    Thanks for reporting this!

Re: Is the XML parser of JSR 172 in Symbian 9.2 flawed?

    hello;

I have the same prolem on a Nokia E71 device, I would like to know if there is a Symbian 9.2 update that fixes this problem.

The version that has the Nokia E71 device is:

    Version: 200.21.118
    Date: 27-11-2008
    Type: RM-357
    Model: Nokia E71-2 (32)

NOTE: I try updating to version 300.21.012 and I get an error (I read in forums that had it available, but it had removed the line for errors which had submitted).

    THANKS ...
