    Saving of data

    hi,

does anyone know how to save data in flash.

how do you save a string of data, does it save into the swf file itself or can it be saved into a normal text file?

    hi,

If you are using FL2 or FL3, you can use Shared Object to save textual data. and load it later in your application. See the FL help for SO.

If you're using FL1.1, you need a thirdparty helper program to save the data in text file.

KuneriLite and Janus Mobile offer tools to save data to file.

Also, Leonardo have made a free tool to save text file using any version of FL.

    As Faisal mentioned, if you are using FL1.1 or further on S60, you can use 3rd party tools. Check this one;

    Re: Saving of data

    Hi chall3ng3r,

Can shared objects be only used to save textual data? How about graphics/images, since they take a long time in loading and if interrupted midway, give an error: "Unable to load data"?

    Regards,
    Supriya

    Hi Supriya,

Yes. SO in FL can only save textual data, and it's limited in size as well, 4KB per SO.

You can use a BG process to download and cache media resources. You have number of options today, KuneriLite, Janus, APIBridge, your customized Symbian C++ HTTP server or Python for S60 + SWF2Go combo

In my opinion Python for S60 offers the best as you can do alot more with easy-to-learn programing language.

And remember, it's upto you which option you find confortable to work with.

    Best,

    Hi chall3ng3r,

I have referred http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...eb_Runtime_API. Is anything available for mobile applications (not the ones accessed through the mobile browser, but those that get data from some webservice in the form of an xml).

    Re: Saving of data

    Hi,

Yes, these options I told you about are for extending Flash Lite mobile applications. Today the easiest way access more device APIs not avaiable in FL, is to write a mini HTTP server. You implement your required APIs in the server, and expose via FL supporting Key-Value pairs or XML.

APIBridge also offers same, you might find the following link helpful http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph...idge_Interface

If you want to do something more, you can try PyS60. Here's a sample to get you started http://www.swf2go.com/wiki/PyS60Sample_BeMyLips.ashx

    Hope it helps,
