    Question Help using Carbide.c++ Developer

    Hi all,

    I am a new user of Carbide.c++ Developer and also a new user of all this technology. I have to develop a bluetooth application but, up to now, I only got to build and package the HelloWorld example. I tried then after to start developing my application in C++ but I found something rare.

    I started with the UI and putting muy code always calling the corresponding event. The problem is that I have a lot of problems programming in c++. I think that Carbide don't use C++ but another one called Symbian C++. I searched for a lot of manuals or tutorials and read a lot of documents from Nokia Forum but still don't know how to work with this language. I don't understand this language. It's very disappointing not to find a good tutorial for new users. That's why I need help.

    What language have i to use to programm my code?.
    Is there any tutorial of how to work with Carbide in "S60 3rd Ed.GUI application with UI designer" project? I think working starting with the UI is easer than starting programming all my code.

    I am getting crazy because I'm not able to understand this program. Please, I need some help.

    Thank you very much for your help in advance.

    Re: Help using Carbide.c++ Developer

    First of all Carbide is just an IDE, don't let yourself intimidated by it.

    Secondly, you may want to start learning first by modifying the Helloworld program or one of the BT examples since that's what you are trying to accomplish. When using the UI designer Carbide.c++ is forced to generate a lot of code and comments. This again might be confusing for you so maybe you should stay away from this feature for now.

    Symbian C++ is well, C++. Plus a lot of other things and minus some other. It will require some getting used to. The SDK documentation (Essential idioms chapter) is the place to start. Then free training material can be found on Forum Nokia's Training pages.

    Re: Help using Carbide.c++ Developer

    Hi all,

    Thank you very much for your help. Finally I know now important and interesting information about symbian c++. Overall the coding conventions that made this language impossible for me. Also now I know the main headers files but my problem is that I can't find the functions in each header.

    I am looking for something like this, to start my application:

    http://www.cprogramming.com/function.html

    where each header have a lot of functions with its explanation and a simple example. Could you show me something similar? Thank you very much.

    Re: Help using Carbide.c++ Developer

    The simple fact is that its going to take a while to learn c++ and even longer to learn Symbian due to its very complex nature.

    Techniques on the desktop do not carry over to the device very well as the way the user interface works is totally different.

    I recommend using the workbook (http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._1_en.pdf.html)
    which will give you a good training course on how to use Symbian and c++

    You might also find some useful bluetooth examples at the link below
