Re: Flash Lite Code Camps - Talk to the Guru

Yes that's right - we're still not at the point of fully being able to build one and deploy everywhere, however with Flash Lite it's a lot more towards this than some other mobil technologies.

As for hi-def (H.264) video, we're not quite there yet, but the recently released Flash Lite 3 player has native support for Flash Video (FLV) which is great news! The quality of FLV over other mobile video formats is excellent, and you can stream this video from a streaming server (Flasm Media Server for example), progressively download, or embed the video with your SWF content. It's my personal belief that we'll eventually see H.264 support in Flash Lite since the mobile player is progressively moving towards being the same as it is on the desktop.

Don't quote me on the H.264 feature - that's just where I *think* it's going As for audio interaction, when it comes to accessing native features of the phone like the camera, microphone, Bluetooth, etc, you need to use a third-party platform to make the connection for you between Flash Lite and these features. Unfortunately right now, Flash Lite can't do it on its own. You might want to have a look at KuneriLite (www.kunerilite.net) or Flyer (www.flyerframework.org) which both allow you to access the phone features via Flash Lite through the platform.

Porting J2ME to Flash Lite will probably give you a few issues like this- but one thing you will gain right out of the box with Flash Lite is a richer user experience, developed in a fraction of the time.

Re: Flash Lite Code Camps - Talk to the Guru

Well, we've just seen Flash Lite 3 launched for S60 3rd Ed FP2 and on various firmware upgrades. This is essentially Flash Player 8 from the desktop and as I mentioned, gives us support for FLV in various ways.

An interesting development announced about a month ago was the merging of Adobe's Mobile and Devices Business Unit, into the Experience and Technology unit headed up by Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch. This corporate restructure indicates that Flash Lite is no longer being seen as an additional "extra" to the Flash platform, but instead becoming an integral part of it. Expect to see a further closing of the gap between the desktop and mobile player technology, and also perhaps growth in the support for the platform on a wider number of handset specs.

I'm very excited about where Flash Lite is headed. After 3 years of working with Flash Lite already, I can see the rate of growth and development becoming exponentially faster in the next 3.

Roozbeh, see previous post on road map - not sure you'll see a lot more progress this year since Flash Lite 3 has only just starting hitting the streets so to speak!

Re: Flash Lite Code Camps - Talk to the Guru

Going to market is getting easier for Flash Lite developers. You have a couple of options for the North American market on the Verizon Wireless carrier deck (see more info on this via the Adobe MaD Developer Centre), but now a growing number of FL developers are finding a route to market through Nokia Downloads!

This is an on-device shop front that gives Nokia customers access to various categories of content. If you have applications or games, then there's a great channel here and I'd be happy to speak to you about your particular content via email after this discussion. There are opportunties at the moment growing in APAC, Europe and China.
