    Developing S60 3rd apps in C#

Hi, I'm writing my apps for PC in C# because it's easy and friendly programming language. I would use it in developing apps for my N95 too. C++ is powerful but awkward. Is there someone else interested in programming with C# for Nokia mobile phones? I hope in future this will be feasible.

And support for Visual Studio 2008 Express would be great too.

C# is Microsoft's language it is not a standard language but one MS designed specifically for their Operating System. Just like Apple has Objective C for their OS System. It just is not in an companies interest to allow Microsoft or Apple or any other operating system vendor to define what their operating system should or can do, look or feel.

For Windows applications C# is great for Nokia Devices running Symbian use Symbian C++, python, Open C, Java, Flash Lite or whatever but you can't use C#.

You can still have a look at this 3rd party runtime: http://www.redfivelabs.com/default.aspx

I mean some form of wrapper above existing libraries.

I saw a presentation (of s60 features) and there was a list of programming languages to program for symbian. c# was one of the languages on the list. I couldn't find examples! Is someone here programming c# for s60?

It works well. Especially now with the new license in place.

To be honest: if I handt so much existing IP in C, I would give Carbide the finger immediately and switch to this. Learning C++ for Symbian was so hard it made me mad.

C# is not Microsoft' language; it was developed by them; just like Java was developed by Sun. C# now is ISO/ECMA standard; and anyone is free to implement the standard. I think it would be great to have CLR (the runtime behind C#) or its subnet (.Net CF) support just like J2ME support in S60. At least Silverlight support is must to attract more developers!

    Re: Developing S60 3rd apps in C#

As said above you can already implement .Net apps on Symbian/S60 and with the OS open to any new ideas naving it support any new and random runtime is in theory possible. Submit your idea to http://ideas.symbian.org

    As for Silverlight, see http://www.nokia.com/press/press-rel...newsid=1197788
