    Widgets and Making a Call

    Hi All,

I am "New Born" in this widgets world. But what I am looking here is, whether is it possible to access device functionalities like "Making a Call" or "Sending a SMS" or accessing the "Contacts" through widgets.

    Hi dgaur!

Widgets that are installed on S60 mobile devices can access some platform services through a SystemInfo API provided by the Web Runtime environment.

    Check Web Developers Library v1.0:
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n...s_Library.html

Right now there is only; Power, Network, Vibration, Beeb tone, Memory, File, Language, Display and keypad illumination services.

    (EDIT)
Btw, "openApplication" method enables a widget to launch an S60 mobile application in the stand-alone mode. Example, "Sending a SMS".

You can also use links to wtai resources (http://mobile.kaywa.com/files/WAP-17...20000707-a.pdf) to make calls and add contacts or typical mailto (http://www.ianr.unl.edu/internet/mailto.html) to invoke your email app.

There will also be "official" APIs called Service APIs for accessing several system resources, like messaging and contacts. Unfortunately telephony won't be there for a while.
