    receive messages

    Hi!

    Is there a possibility to receive sms messages which
    are larger than 256 chars with the sms.content function???

    Or is there an alternative???

    Kind regards!

    Hi,

    Where did you get that "256 chars" limitation? It's a magical number, sounds suspicious...

    SMS max length is 160 characters. You can create longer messages in SMS UI, but those are actually split into max 160 char messages, sent one by one and combined at receiving party back to original one long message.

    In theory s60 python should be able to create long sms messages, but your magical number suggests a bug somewhere...

    Hi freaky_911,

    In one standard SMS there are 160 characters, If the characters are more than 160 the number of SMS is incremented. You can read the SMS content of received SMS, even if its more than 160. Are you trying to do that?

    If you post your code we could be more helpful to you.

    Re: receive messages

    Hello!

    If you send a message with more than 256 chars to a phone
    running the following code your message will be cut
    after 256 chars...

    box.content(msg_id) has this limitation...

    Code:
    def message_received(msg_id):
            box = inbox.Inbox()
            sms_text = box.content(msg_id)
            appuifw.note(u"sms content: " + sms_text , "info")
            app_lock.signal()
    Is there a possibility to receive even bigger messages???

    Hello freaky,

    This may be a limitation of the appuifw.note. Use the code below so that we can confirm it and if so probably find a solution to it.

    Code:
    def message_received(msg_id):
            box = inbox.Inbox()
            sms_text = box.content(msg_id)
            print sms_text

    Ok - I am sorry - but I have the same problem again.... It seems that box.content(msg_id) cannot deliver more than 256 chars....

    Thanks for confirming this. I will add this to the Feature request list when I get time so that later releases may have it possibly solved.You can do it too from the link in my signature.
