Exclamation S60 3rd Edition FP2 SDK dies randomly

I'm trying to use the S60 3rd Edition SDK (not beta) to run applications, but it dies typically after a couple of seconds of being opened, before an application starts, and sometimes the emulator itself doesn't even start up.

At first, I thought it might be some interaction problem between NetBeans and the emulator, so I tried running the emulator directly from the Start menu, and get the exact same behavior. FWIW, I changed the timeout setting in build-impl.xml from 30000 to 60000 per the installation instructions.

I have my JAVA_HOME pointing to my 1.5.0_14 JRE, though I have others installed on my system.

Any idea how I can get this emulator to work?

    Thanks for any help!

What OS are you running on?

Dang, so my first guess was not the correct one...

Does it die with all MIDlets (simple HelloWorld for example)?

Yes, it dies without loading a MIDlet at all.

Just running epoc.exe (with no arguments, no MIDlets loaded) from the command line gives the described behavior. No interaction with the emulator necessary.

I just tried it again to see how long it lasted, it stayed open for about 30 sec -- it page faults like crazy (Windows Task Manager shows a PF delta of ~650) the entire time and then dies. I can interact with the menus and everything normally while it is open.
