    Recording video with sound?

    Hello everyone.

From the API docs, the forum and web searches I understand that it is not possible to record a video clip with sound in PyS60? In other words, it seems to me that the camera module only allows recording mute videos -- is this true?

I am considering writing an extension that provides an interface to the CVideoRecorderUtility Symbian C++ class, but before I start working on this I wanted to make sure I would not be re-inventing the wheel..

    Thanks,
    Enrico

There is no other option in pys60 except mixing the two files obtained separately (probably from 2 devices) on a Jukebox (i.e. having audio embeded in a video file), so you surely would'nt be reinventing.

    hi Enrico
kandyfloss is correct that u r not going to reinventing the wheel. In PyS60 there is no module available for recoeding a video.
Its really great that u r writing a extension for that. if u get the success then that extension will be of a great help.
    thanks

What device are you using? On my N95, the videos I record (with a python program I made myself) have sound.

    Re: Recording video with sound?

    Hello.

Thank you all for the replies.

After your message I tried again and I realized the following: I can hear the audio of the videos recorded from python if I play them from the phone, but not if I play them on my PC (either using Quicktime or VLC Player). So it could be a codec problem.

However, the files recorded from the camera application that comes with the phone work correctly both on the phone and on the PC (of course the same PC with the same applications).

Any idea why is this and how to fix it?

Can you reproduce correctly the files on the PC?

    Thanks,
    Enrico

The videos play correctly with Nokia Multimedia Player (which comes with PC Suite) and Nero Showtime (which comes with Nero 8)
