    For N95 use the S60 3rd Edition FP1 emulator

    You could start from here

    Re: Programming to N95´s camera

    Hello again.

I can´t simulated the camera with S60 3rd Edition FP1 emulator. I used Sun emulator, but the aspect/image doesn´t is simular to N95, it is a general mobile.

I have used the FP2 emulator but i obtained an excepcion: "javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Not supported locator: capture://video".

    Why?

    THANKS.

    bye.

In the release notes for the S60 SDK it is mentioned that

Differences between emulator and S60 devices
    --------------------------------------------
    - Camera features are not supported.

    Re: Programming to N95´s camera

I'm trying to get oriented capturing the video stream from a N95 camera. Presently, I have no written code, but have seen demonstrations how to access the camera. (For instance, Nokia's Wiki on displaying the camera in Java ME.

This appears to only work for the camera on the back of the phone. However, I would like to capture video from the forward-facing camera (the one typically used for video conferencing).

Is there any way of specifying which camera to capture from?

I'm postponing any implementation for now to see if C++ or Mobile Java is the better approach.

Additionally, I am curious if it is possible to capture from both cameras simultaneously. Any hints are much appreciated!

Yep there is a way to specify the camera

"capture://devcam0" is the main camera pointing outwards from the user.

"capture://devcam1" is the secondary camera pointing, for example, towards the user. This locator is supported only if the device has more than one camera.

    uup... missed your last question.

Capturing both cameras at the same time is not possible with Java ME

Might you know if this is possible in C++? I don't have a preference in language, but find it important to maximize the possibilities. Is there a benefit in this area of one over the other?

Thanks so much for the effort!

The Symbian C++ issue was addressed in different thread: unfortunately, capturing video streams simultaneously from multiple sources is not possible on all Nokia models up to and including the N95. No telling if this will change in the future.
