How to start a midlet when a memory card is inserted?

Our client wants a midlet which starts when a memory card is inserted. It should also be possible to start the midlet from the memory card. Is this possible to achieve and if so, how can I implement this?

Start the MIDlet when memory card is inserted - not possible.
You can start a MIDlet installed to the memory card, but it needs to be installed on the memory card (on that phone) through the normal MIDlet installation process.

In general you have to evaluate & understand what the client reall wants to accomplish and look for other solutions, as what you are asking above is not possible with Java ME.

Re: How to start a midlet when a memory card is inserted?

How about a way to programmatically start a midlet after it's been installed? We're using the PCCAPI to install the application, but we're now looking for a way to actually kick it off (for automated testing). The PushRegistry is ok, but it prompts the user to start the midlet, and considering this is an automated test we'd like for there to be no end-user involvement.

    Thank you in advance..

Not sure if PCCAPI provides any tools for this... I am not familiar enough with that.

BTW, which phone models are you talking about? Series 40? S60? (not that this information would help me any further, but maybe someone else could chime in...)
