    Bluetooth serial port philosophy

    Hi there,

This made a long time I've been on this forum becasue people here helped a lot to learn... But for a project I though simple I must admit I have some problems understanding.

Well, I need a "simple" Bluetooth serial port.
On my right USD BT adapter dongle on a PC with a terminal software
    On my left N82 device.

I need to establish a port connexion when I open the matching serialport on terminal (obviously after setting SPP in BT PC manager)

    1st round:
Ok... Let's discover a SPP service on phone... Ooops only DUN (AT? Ok fun but not what I need)
So I guess I have to declare a port on the phone prior to establish a connexion (I guess), so I try the simple BTCOMM wiki example to connect to server and then check again if there is a SPP service declared -> Nope
    http://www.symbian.com/developer/tec...btcomm%2eusing
I maybe made a mistake but the little snippet looked sexy to me...

    2nd round:
Try PMP example using sockets (I confess I never used them). Freaky bunch of code! Well no matter let's see if it works:
-It asks for BT to switch on example start: ok good point
-test slave mode, nothing new on PC BT manager
-test master mode, check for devices: PC found! great, not the way i would connect the phone but a good start
-search for services: 0 found... What am I doing wrong?

Do you people have a simple working snippet or could you explain what shameful mistakes I do.

Best regards and thanks for your attention
    Noxh

Edit: some rusted english syntax errors

    Re: Bluetooth serial port philosophy

Please do not consider this as a "bump" or a "up" this is just a question... No one knows how to make a simple serial port using SPP profile?

    Hi man
lastly I found something regarding the SPP, check this
    http://developer.symbian.com/main/do...rol_S60_v1.zip
a full working SPP application with source code( I tested it on my 6630) : I opened the app on the phone, choosed com port 4, and connected to the PC. on the PC end I opened the hyper terminal and everthing works find.
also my BT dongle now finds SPP on my 6630, which wasn't do before.

    my regards

Thanks for you kind answer, I must admit it's kind of a blurry topic, and thanks you answered to to something I did not have a real clue: you have to set a port to make it discoverable, it's obvious said like this but...

I will teste it as soon as possible!

    Re: Bluetooth serial port philosophy

    Man... Too bad it's a 2ndEd example,

Missing many headers for 3rd (think deprecated) and overall security is not the same BT-wise, but nice example thanks.

I both tried on both 5500 and N82 this damn PMPExample, so MR and FP1 and this wrecks my nerves.

It does the same on the 2 devices:
    channel 2 for 5500 and channel 5 for N82
-Slave mode: does not advertise any serialport or even obex on the phone, only DUN as usual, which is available without the example
-Master mode: can only find devices but cannot discover services

    Is this buggy or me?
Seems like the problem is in the service discovery/advertising phasis.

Same thing with 2 dongles (Ezurio and CCK), 2 devices, and 2 OS (Vista and XP)... bah...
