    How to start a Symbian server without reboot?

    Hi!
    I need a background process (server exe) to start when a UI application is launched. The server exe needs to remain running after the UI app is closed.
    How is this done in Symbian?

    BTW, I have the application (server exe) in the startup list, but that only helps for the next device startup.

    Thanks in advance!

    Find the server exists or not using TFindServer findServer.

    If it doesnt exists create using RProcess::Create

    Then you have functions like Resume, close in RProcess,

    you can refer to http://www.newlc.com/topic-7727.

    In case if you dont have the client interface to check your server running or not. you can start the same code with other name and can switch between these two applications using Application key.

    Re: How to start a Symbian server without reboot?

    Thanks for all the pointers. I eventually solved the problem by trying to connect to the server, and if that failed I used:

    _LIT(KMyExeFile,"test.exe");
    _LIT(KMyExeFileCmd,"first_argument second third");

    RProcess proc;
    User::LeaveIfError(proc.Create(KMyExeFile,KMyExeFileCmd));
    // start the process running! Don't forget this.
    proc.Resume();
    proc.Close(); // Closes the handle, not the process.
