    S60 3.2 Emulator crash on Vista and Carbide 1.3

    S60 3.2 emulator crashes 3 times our of 5 on my vista desktop, running Carbide 1.3 and when I try to launch the emulator to debug my simple program, debug log shows the following:

    2.835 Thread fbserv.exe::FbsBgCompressThread created @ 0x244debc - Win32 Thread ID 0x17d0
    2.840 STARTER # Launched executable Z:\sys\bin\fbserv.exe [2]
    2.840 STARTER # Starting to launch executable Z:\sys\bin\wserv.exe [2]
    2.860 Thread wserv.exe::Main created @ 0x244f610 - Win32 Thread ID 0x1090
    2.865 STARTER # Setting timeout for component launch
    2.865 STARTER # Waiting for for component start
    2.875 Thread wserv.exe::Wserv Panic SCDV 12
    2.875 FAULT: KERN 0x00000004 (4)

    Sometimes the crash happens even earlier with the following log:
    0.000 Thread 00484458 created @ 0x484458 - Win32 Thread ID 0xd74
    0.000 Thread EKern.exe::Supervisor created @ 0x2513390 - Win32 Thread ID 0xe5c

    0.000 FAULT: KERN 0x00000039 (57)

    when I had debug log off the crashes were even more common, sometimes I has to launch emulator 10 times to get it running once... anyone has similar problems?

    No ... i am using the Vista with out any error in my Personal laptop.
    But i rather prefer using WindowsXP for development. as till now the S60 SDK is not support Windows VISTA.

    Try with giving emulator process EPOC.exe in Debug configuration instead of your application.
    Carbide.c++ -> Run -> Debug Configuration -> Symbian OS Emulation -> Process to launch -> Browse -> C:\Symbian\9.2\S60_3rd_FP1\Epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\EPOC.exe
    PS: Narrow down to path of EPOC.exe in your computer. Here I have given mine for reference.

    I'm trying to run the epoc from command line or from the Start menu | SDK | Emulator (simplified) but the both ways are not succesful as the epoc ends with wserv.exe::Wserv Panic.

    Thumbs up Re: S60 3.2 Emulator crash on Vista and Carbide 1.3

    For me, this was caused by faulty Windows Vista Realtek drivers.

    Solution:

    Right click audio icon - speaker -> playback devices -> right click on everyone -> disable.

    Also make sure that DEP is turned off for all applications in Windows system settings.

    This helped for me! I was a bit puzzled when carbide started to ask serial number for the SDK but before I was able to copy/paste number the emulator crashed. I run on Windows Vista and things went quite well before new OS updates seemed to kill my sound (realtek audio indeed).

    I couldn't find any menu where I could insert the SDK serial, is there any?

    Start the emulator from outside the IDE (command epoc.exe or Windows' Start menu) and once the emulator loaded it will start the registration wizard or you will have the Help->Register now option.

    I seem to have a same problem. Eventhough instead of Vista I'm using Windows 7.

    Isn't there any real fix for this problem? I mean other than disabling soundcard.

    Re: S60 3.2 Emulator crash on Vista and Carbide 1.3

    Now it seems to work with sounds enabled.

    I had to disable front panel jack detection from Realtek HD Audio Manager.

    Then I added epoc.exe and carbide*.exe to kaspersky trusted list and emulator seems to work ok.
