What are you putting into stack ?
Did you remember to fully construct it beforehand ?

You should try following the regular path as a first try: have a separate AppUi calss inherited from CAknAppUi, and a separate class inherited from CCoeControl. Check any of the examples, or just generate a new project with Carbide.
After you understand everything, you can start experimenting if the AppUi and the container can be implemented in one big class (for example you should obviously reproduce the execution flow - BaseConstructL of AppUi, window creation, setrect, activation etc. - which occurs in the 2-classes situation)

just handle the menu in your normal AppUi class, and have the container derived only from CCoeControl, I'm 99% there should not be a way on deriving a clas from both of them
