Unhappy Which Nokia phones have supports.video.capture=true ?

After I read a forum thread where the user 'Hartti' wrote that all Nokia phones with a camera supported MMAPI, I bought a cheap Nokia 2630 to use for testing as a sort of 'minimum platform' for my midlet.

I really think its misguidance to state that all Nokia phones with a camera supports JSR-135/MMAPI when they only support a fraction of it.

So if someone at Nokia could give me a list of Nokia phones that actually support video capturing from JavaME, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you seen the Device Specifications on the Forum Nokia web site?

Okay, the device specifications for Nokia 2630 says it supports JSR 135 Mobile Media API.

But JSR 135 is a lot of things - and only some are supported. Where on that page do you see that video capturing isn't supported?

Sorry, I'm not a Java guy. If JSR 135 support doesn't equal video capturing support then ... I'm lost.

    Calling Hartti & co.

That list of Nokia phones that actually support video capturing from JavaME would be great to have.

I need to find the cheapest & most basic Nokia phone that supports video capturing (Nokia 2630 does - but not for user programs i.e. JavaME midlets - no native apps on Series 40 which also mean no camera plugin for Flash Lite)

Re: Which Nokia phones have supports.video.capture=true ?

Aren't there any officials from Nokia monitoring these forums?

Anyway it's not much better at Motorola - they say specifically on their site, that the phones L6 and RAZR V3i supports video capturing - and that's a direct lie (I have both phones and they both give MediaPlayerException: createPlayer() failed at Manager.createPlayer("capture://video"))

Re: Which Nokia phones have supports.video.capture=true ?

Sometimes there is more time to monitor the discussions in here and sometimes there is less time. Sorry for the silence for the past week :-(

And also these free discussion boards are not a full-blown support channel for Nokia, we have a separate support case tool for that
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/tech...ort/index.html

The device specs we have unfortunately do not provide detailed information of the API support (which of the optional packages are supported and which are not). Some more data is available in here
    http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph..._Nokia_devices
but unfortunately also this table does not include the MMAPI specifics... which we could probably fit in there as well

Also this doc has some more information, but not for all phone models
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n..._0_en.xls.html

To answer your question, 2630 is a low-end phone with limited set of Java APIs supported. 6500 is more capable and supports video recording. In general the video capture has been around on Series 40 phones since 3rd Edition FP1 (unless my memory fails me now altogether...), I have to confirm the video support after the weekend, when I am in the office

Re: Which Nokia phones have supports.video.capture=true ?

Thank you for your detailed reply, Hartti.

Especially the last link to the Excel-file helps quite a bit, but as you said it doesn't cover all phone models.

Yeah the .xls-file is a year old - we need an update of this document.

Any time frame for this .xls update? (i.e. do you have a tester working on updating it?)

I'll pass this on to the documentation team.
