That file format is quite proprietary, I do not think that any documentation would be available for that. You can either create such file via sending messages from the emulator (you get the output in smsout), or you can experiment with NCF (Nokia Connectivity Framework, you can find it amongst the Tools on Forum Nokia main site), if it can help.

    Re: Message in Inbox

    Hi wizard,
I have done that. I sent a file from emulator. The sent message was there in smsout. I copied that message to smsin but it was of no help.

I will try NCF. Thanks for the location.

    Re: Message in Inbox

    Hi Stichbury,
Thanks for the effort. The thread in SDN which your link points to is related to inserting SMS in inbox of phone.

I want to receive an SMS in emulator(not phone). If receiving is not possible i will have to manually create a file at a particular location. But what kind of file that should be and what will be its format is not clear.

Will appreciate if you can help.

What do you mean on that? Although the emulator does not shows the new-message popup, the message arrives into your Inbox, and you can catch it in HandleSessionEventL.

    Re: Message in Inbox

    Hi wizard,
I was verifying whether my emulator can be used to check receiving SMS in Inbox. So I sent an SMS from my emulator. I found it in smsout folder. I thought if the format of sent and received messages are same then by copying the message from smsout folder to smsin folder, my emulator will emulate receiving a message. But no luck.

I used an MMS created by Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit. I pasted that MMS file at mmsin folder and my emulator accepted it as an incoming MMS. But the problem is, I am unable to create an SMS from Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit. I dont know what kind of SMS format will be supported

I want to emulate the scenario before starting to develop something on it.

    Any Help??

    try this example...

you can create a draft entry and move it to inbox as incoming sms

just build it and use this on your emulator... i have used it similarly

    Re: Message in Inbox

I have just tested it (with FP1) and it works for me. Has "message0.sms" disappeared from the smsin folder after a few moments?

    Re: Message in Inbox

That is strange. Can it happen that sometimes you encounter the ncnlist-error message? That application is part of the messaging subsystem, thus it may also do the SMS-emulation for the emulator. I have no other idea.
