Signing a S40 CellID midlet with Netbeans

    Hello,

I'm new to J2ME and would like to run this example of CellID midlet on a 6136 (S40 3rd Ed., FP 1).

AFAIK, a S40 midlet need to be signed to access such a property. I'm running Netbeans and WTK on Ubuntu and not sure how to sign a midlet. Do I need to use the Windows Nokia SDK to sign midlets or can I sign them with Netbeans on Linux ?

I found this tutorial for signing midlet but I don't know how to allow API permissions for the System.getProperty("Cell-ID"). Is this tutorial enough for a signed CellID midlet ?

    Thanks.

Re: Signing a S40 CellID midlet with Netbeans

    Hi there

the example of CellID page has a note saying -In Series 40 devices the MIDlet needs to be signed to a manufacturer or operator domain,

It means we need to have the manufectrer certificate. Normally all these verisign/thwate certificates are developer's certificate so you will not be able to get the required properties.

Hi kael! Welcome to Nokia Developer Discussion Boards!!

Getting CellID in 6136 requires the MIDlet to be signed to Manufacturer or Operator domain, and it requires you have to work closely with Nokia or an operator. But if you can get a S60 3rd Edition, FP2 device, no signing is required AFAIK to get CellID.

    Regards
    Gopal

Thank you both for these precisions.

    I'm going to get a S60.

Does the release of S40 (Series 40) 6th Edition with JSR-179, the location API, reveal the Cell-ID without the need for operator or manufacturer signing?
