[moved] Why SDK miss guide developers

    Hi,

I read a post the link is following, here developers use HAL.h and HAL_Data.h, but set function does not work, it have no permission, and in SDK no documentation provide for how can you use?

I think remove this from SDK because this is useless.

    Dear aamitgupta,

Can you please indicate the documentation page in your SDK that describes the feature you are trying to use and advertises the HAL API as the recommend solution?

Re: [moved] Why SDK miss guide developers

    Hi,

i am saying that no documentation in SDK but, HAL.h and HAL_Data.h is in SDK, and developers want to use them. If it is private mention it or remove it from SDK include folder. We see this header file and going to use but at the end we get this is private and we can not use.

    Amit

Sorry, my confusion cleared, in header file mention publishpartner, means not public.

Re: [moved] Why SDK miss guide developers

In forum, another senior member (me) told you repeatedly that you should* only use public APIs from the SDK.

The HAL API is owned by Symbian Ltd and clearly marked in the header as @publishedPartner. It is true, the API should not even be in the SDK but there are at least some clearly documented cases where the API is needed since a better one is not available.

We would gladly remove any misleading information we might have provided since obviously our mission is to help developers not to create confusion. Please do report more SDK defects whenever you find them ...

    * I would say must but, in the end, how can I stop you ...

Edit: I see that you have found the answer while I was typing my answer

Contact the API owner and ask for permission [and support]. For S60 APIs we have the API Partnering process.

For Symbian OS APIs you will have to contact Symbian and evaluate the available options (required partnership level).
